La Aduana: Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 Pick-Up

E-mail Print PDF

Why settle for the "usual" pick-up truck when you could have something so much more interesting? Forget the Ford, Dodge, or Chevy and check out this FJ45 Land Cruiser for sale in Savannah, Georgia. The best part? It's diesel and according to the seller, returns around 25-30 miles per gallon. It appears to be in great shape, and may even have a newer pick-up bed from a 78 series Land Cruiser. If so, this could be a great alternative to a 78, as they're still really tough to get in the United States. The bid is at $12,100, and we're thinking it's a pretty good price for a solid truck.

You can find it here on eBay Motors. [link]

Here's what the seller has to say about the vehicle:

1978 FJ45- This Toyota truck has been owned by 1 family since it was imported into Costa Rica in 1978. I purchased it from the Grandson of the original purchaser. Though the truck had been handed down 2 generations, there were no transfers of ownership. (pesky transfer taxes!).

The truck has been lovingly cared for & garaged for the last 35 years. It has lived high in the mountains of Costa Rica, and the condition of the truck reflects this.

Here is the straight scoop, good & bad:

GOOD- The motor & chassis are in great condition, as is the sheet metal, suspension, brakes and upholstery- The interior is all original, headliner, seats, and floor mat! The truck gets 25-30 mpg with the diesel!!!

I shipped the truck to Miami and drove it to Savannah Georgia (500 miles!) last week without ANY problem whatsoever. It is in rock-solid mechanical condition. The steering & suspension are tight.

BAD- The front bezel, hood scoops, & mirrors, are not original. Truck owners in CR are just like we are here in the states, and like to "customize" their rides to look a little different than the neighbors! ( I have the correct bezel from CCOT for the front.)

The front doors could use new channels, felt, & rubber. The vent window frames are rusted at the bottoms a little...

I have dozens of closeups of the entire vehicle, as well as several video clips. The pictures tell most of the story...
