Believe it or not, a flash drive can prove to be an incredibly valuable tool for an overlander. While it might not be able to fix your flat or get you unstuck, there's plenty of things it can do. If you're traveling overseas with your vehicle, there can be a scary amount of paperwork to deal with, passports, vehicle titles, insurance, carnets—all of which you should carry a spare copy, what happens if someone were to steal your backpack containing the documents you essentially need to survive abroad? You'd be spending a lot of time on the phone, that's for sure. The LaCie Rugged Key ($40-70) can help out there, not only is the flash drive virtually bulletproof, it's also water-resistant, and impervious to heat and cold. It's the perfect place to store an additional digital copy of all the paperwork you need, while they can't substitute for the originals, having a secure backup of your important documents can sure go a long way in replacing them.

The LaCie RuggedKey is also USB 3.0 compliant, for transfer speeds of up to 150 mb/sec, and comes with 256-bit encryption software.
