Hi guys, looking for any input on these soft canvas camper shells that I have seen in catalogs. I am specifically looking for one that rolls up for storage up near the cab when it is not needed (like a Tonneau cover). I hate driving with a camper b/c it obscures my vision and the hard toppers are a hassle to take on/off but I need something to use to cover yard refuse sometimes for work (own a landscaping co). It will be going in a 2007 Silverado Work Truck quad cab, short bed.

Anyone have any experience with them? Do they stand up to the test of time?

Many thanks!

I've had a Truxedo soft cover on my truck for about 4 years now and it's as good as new.

I too tout the tenacious Truxedo.

Going on 4 years and it is still strong and snug. Apply some 303 twice a year.

I think Flux is asking about the Bestop pickup topper that folds back like a jeep soft top when not needed. I've been thinking about these too and have yet to find anyone that has used one. Interesting if anyone here has one.

Tacozona has a review of his SoftTopper here. (http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1301)

Unfortunately his pics were lost, but from their website -

Can Back used to be the leaders for that product, but they went out of buisness. I've heard the bestop isn't as high quality as the Can Backs, but there just aren't many options right now.

the biggest difference in style was Can Back's sides rolled up, while the entire top on the bestop folded forward

personally, Ive always liked the CanBack's style better, but now they are too hard to come by

The Softopper and Best Top products have the ability to roll up the sides and fold forward. However they can not support any weight on the roof like the Can-Back topper does. To support any weight above them you have to use and external support. While I love my Truxedo it unfortunately can not protect my dogs from rain and hail when out and about. I am thinking about picking up a Softopper this year. From what I've heard the quality is good and they are local for me which is nice.

Can-Back is still open for business. They've gone through some typical small business changes and challenges, but someone is still making them. Here's a link (http://www.soft-top.com/CanBack/index.php)-

FlyingWil has a Can-Back on his first gen d-cab Tacoma (http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=129197&postcount=424). He some unique insider info on working with them.

I've been waiting for over a year and a half for a Can-Back to put on my '06 Dodge 2500.
I had originally purchased a Bestop but sent it back because the fit was so bad. The Dodge is about 3" narrower at the tailgate than at the cab. Alot of these tops are symetrical so they won't fit a fullsize Dodge.
The Can-Back still looks like the best product, they've just been slow getting to all the makes.

PS Just talked to Brian at Truck Candy and he said they're still a couple months off.
