Change tire size and lift 2"

Hello, I am new to this fourm and to Jeep mods. Need a little help. I have 06 Jeep x , 6 speed trans and want to increase tire size to 30 or 31, 2 or 2 1/2 lift and do not want to change gearing at this time. My dealer and others can not tell me my gear ratio. ?? 3:07?

Can I make the changes and still use as Iam doing now? Any advice on brands of lift kits and tires? Thanks Noah

You'll be fine. In fact, you can run 31s without any lift and no rubbing.

You can request a build sheet from Jeep, just give them your VIN. That will tell you your gear ratio, but it's most likely 3.07:1 with 4.0 and manual.

dennisuello is right. Getting your build sheet is good so that you know what originally came with your Jeep, but you can also look at the diff cover and there should be a tag telling you what gears you have.

Thanks !!! I will try to get a build sheet with VIN NO. My wife and I frequently travel alone with a RV and pull Jeep. We use Jeep mostly on trails rated 1 & 2 however we encounter more difficult areas and continue when we feel safe. Many times we scrape skid plates and etc. More clearance would give more flexibility. Important to us to use on highway towed. See http://ncnoah.com/Default.ASPX

Get 31s first and see if you still want the lift. The center skid that you always hit first, can be replaced with a flatter, smoother, higher clearance skid and it sounds like might be a better way to spend the $$$ for your needs.

Not that I'm much of an expert but...

I have 3.07 gears and 31 inch tires on my TJ and I regularly have to drop down to 4th gear to maintain 65 mph on highway hills. This is OK but if I had bigger tires I'd definitely re-gear.

Also the blue 28 tooth speedo gear is accurate for this combination and is the smallest gear available.
