View Full Version : Horizon Off Road Trailer for sale

Martyn
01-19-2008, 02:05 AM
To celebrate the MLK weekend I thought I'd post my trailer for sale. The trailer was manufactured in the summer of 2005 and has been used a few times by my family and I. The trailer went down to Baja as part of a Patagonia shoot with 3 top women surfers (I wasn't allowed to go!!), and it's been used for the occasional rental.

The trailer has some scratches and dings, giving it character I like to think, but basically it's very sound.

The PDF document attached shows how the trailer is equipped right now. The Horizon has a Torsionflex axle with 3500 lb bearing derated to 2500 lbs. The tent is an Overland Medium RTT (queen size), and a Treg multi axis coupler.

In the past 7 years we have had eight trailers come back for resale on the open market. So this does represent a rare opportunity.

To buy a similarly equipped trailer today would cost $13230.00, I am asking $6500.00 for the trailer.

Please e mail me at martyn@adventuretrailers.com or PM me.

Phil asked some great questions the answers to which will help clarify a few things.

The pictures are not current, I'll see about having some taken, but I'm not in Southern California right now. The date on the attached pictures is incorrect, I'm the type of guy who's VCR flashes 12:00

The following were replaced or added a year ago, awning, tires, second Lifeline group 31 AGM battery, tent.

You can read up on torsion axles here http://dexteraxle.com/torflex_axles

By de-rated I mean the rubber suspension components have been rated to 2500 lbs to give a softer ride, while the bearings still remain at 3500 lbs.

Apart from the axles being different everything else is basically the same as current production models.

I'm selling the trailer for a few reasons.

After winter sets in here in Truckee I can't keep a trailer here because of the snow, and we may have to go back to South Africa for my wife's research right as the weather starts to get nice here, so I may not be using the trailer until the Summer time.

My second vehicle a Subaru is having some difficulties. Binding in the 4WD due to a solenoid malfunction, and misfiring that may be due to a loose valve guide.

My wife has decided my Jeep will now be her vehicle as she doesn’t want to break down on the road. So the Subaru is my vehicle now. I'm looking at renovating our FJ55 and doing a diesel conversion on it but that takes time and the Subaru may stop working completely in the mean time.

Like you guys we have a family budget and a replacement vehicle isn't built into it. I'm hoping the $6500 will be the cushion we need to float us through.

If no one has bought this trailer yet, someone is missing out on the deal of the decade. I bought the sister trailer to this one a few months back, used, and paid substantially more and I still feel as though I got a deal. If I had use for 2 of them I would be snatching this one up too.

I'm planning on buying it. Martyn and I are just working out some details first.

James, a relay would be awesome, if for no other reason but to meet up again.

Even if I end up going all the way to pick it up (not necessarily a bad idea, excepting the terribly expensive trip, in order to sort everything out and learn what I need to know from the experts) maybe we should plan a short trip or something to take it on it's first run?

I am curious, though, to at least compare the cost of shipping it here. DFW is a major hub, so it might not bee too bad. Round trip, not including any excursions, it's almost 3K miles. At 15mpg, that's around $650 for premium fuel at TX pricing...surely more in CA.

Good for you Amigo! :wings:

I think you might be able to ship if for $650, don't know how much time you have to come and get it (often a limiting factor for me), but I'm sure Mario/Martyn will have some insight.

If you were taking a direct route I think you would avoid most of Calif., though Nevada fuel prices for are about the same (expensive).

I know that many people have said this on this forum many times before, but I feel compelled to repeat the sentiment. Adventure Trailers commitment to customer satisfaction and their willingness to listen, work with, and help their customers is outstanding.

After several weeks of working with Martyn and Mario in preparation for the trailer to ship I have to say that this has been a great experience. They are both so knowledgeable in so many areas that this shouldn't go overlooked.

It's a comfort to receive well thought-out answers to many of the questions that I've had in getting the trailer and my tow rig ready. You instantly recognize that they've done it all before and have sorted out many of the common problems. Their willingness to listen and work with me has been a bonus far beyond what I would normally expect from a reputable company. So, there, I just wanted to get that out there, because they deserve all the thanks and praise...they seem to earn it every day.

Now that things are getting very close to the ship date, I feel like a kid in a very, very big candy store...kinda like all these at the same time: :jumping::wings: :D :chowtime:  :jumping:

The first trip should be an easy one to shake out you and the trailer.

It's been a while since I have had the little one out so I will need to relearn where everything goes and what to pack. I took the trap off it today and took it for a trip over to Expert off-road for something to do.

What did the guys at EOR think? Had they seen it before?

You know, Stephen built my sliders and all my skid plates. He does some great work. Kevin has a lot of good advice too. They know their stuff.

I gotta learn how to weld though. Custom work can add up quickly when you're paying T&M.

So, last night I was working 'til 1am getting stuff ready for the BBNP trip tomorrow.

I installed a 12" hitch extender so that I can open the rear door to my truck.

I got 3 of the silent hitch pins from Mario. As soon as I noticed that they also had locks, I thought that was great. But, I was concerned about having to add 3 additional keys to my already overloaded key ring. :smilies27

Well, when I went to install them and I noticed that all three pins had matching locks. Damn, they seem to think of just about everything. I didn't even know these had locks and didn't even think to ask for matching keys, but Mario knew already that I would want them and took the time to find matching ones. :D

Congrats Tony. You must feel like a kid at Christmas time.

If you want to start a new thread in the trailer section, we can move some of these posts and pics over for you. Your call -

Thanks, and you're right; I do. Where's the xmas tree smiley when you need it?

Regarding the thread move. That's okay; I'll start a new one.

Since this has been sold is it safe to delete this thread?

Maybe just lock it since it might be cool to reference later. --Ursidae69
