I'm going to test out the 4BT's fuel consumption with the roofrack on, so I installed it today (after three years off the Cruiser). Here's some poseur pics with the rig parked outside of my house:

I just love the lock of the rack and always have on your truck. I know it's not always practical nor efficient, but it just screams that I'd meet you passing the other way deep in the desert/jungle...

That snorkel is wild. It's an amphibious assault vehicle. :D :ar15:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, that 60 is sick. Wow, that is my all time favorite 60.

Henry,
The rack looks great. What are you using for a load floor? I would be surprised if the rack makes more than a 1 mph difference with the diesel.
Looking forward to hear where your machine is going to take you ;)

I'm completely in awe of that vehicle, and very curious to hear about the fuel consumption. A diesel in my FJ40 is a definite potential project.

ME TOO!
Inefficient or not, the roof rack ups the drool-factor... my desk is a mess now.

The INTI racks use extruded aluminum runners, spaced a couple of inches apart, running the length of the rack. Very strong, but also very light! Without the superstructure, I can mount the base of the rack on my Cruiser by myself, with someone just guiding it along.
I'll be filling up the tank in the next couple of days (after a month), and then I'll start the countdown. My initial assessment was no significant impact from the weight of the rack on the overall drivability, although the sand ladders do whistle a bit past 75 MPH. The reality is, they won't be on there for long, I rarely use them anymore.
Cheers!
Henry
wrap the sand racks in crating plastic to cut down the noise and make them slick for high speed travel. then keep them on for the badass factor.

I have nothing important to say, other than that 60 rules. Gawl dang!
I don't even know how I ended up in the Toyota section...drawn by some force beyond me, I suppose.

Hey Henry
Is that rack from a Venez Manufacture? If so, a buddy of mine named Alvaro has one on his 80 and it is very well thought out with sides that fold down and such, very well thought out and made!
Nice Rack (wow i feel weird saying that to a guy!) :D

Alvaro Rodriguez has the INTI rack on his 80, it's a really great rack. How did you get one? He just started importing them to the USA
Also, I'm very interested in your review of the 4BT- performance, reliability, alot of fiddling/tuning?, etc.
Thanks!

henry I am wondering what the end consuption ended up being, drastically reduced?

Henry
I've done the same test on my old 60 and my now 80.
With or with out the MPGs were bad. No real change in mpg. I keep the rack off so I can get into the garage though. The neighboors know when we are getting ready to travel since the rack is the 1st thing I mount back on the cruiser

I got mine in about 7 years ago, completely dissassembled, on an airplane! My dad's still pissed about that story ("Dad, I need you to bring me something for my Cruiser"....he thought it was something like a carb kit)....
Before Alvaro imported that batch, there were a handful of INTI racks in the country, starting with one that Adrian Vera imported even before mine into Colorado. What's funny is that all the ex-pat Venezuelan Cruiserheads living in the US have them! :)
I lost about 3 MPG when on the highway, not too bad. Right now I don't have where to put the rack, but as soon as I move into my new house it's coming off again.
what is the mpg with the diesel?
what was it with the stock motor?
Thanks

I'll be interested to hear your results. I have a full length INTI rack on my 80 series.

Running the original engine, I was losing about 2-3 MPG, which is about what I'm losing with the diesel. Surprisingly, adding the custom storage to the rear of the roof rack doesn't seem to add to the detrimental effect...I guess it's one of those "aerodynamics of a brick" vs "aerodynamics of a slightly taller brick"....! :)

Henry,
Not to hijack the thread, but where are all those lisence plates on your 60 series from? Just curious!

Just back from death valley i burned 3/4 of a tank in 190 miles with the INTI fully loaded and the rig itself loaded w/2 occupants.
What is that average? about 9-10 mpg?
Assuming the tank is full at 25.1 gallons.

I don't know how I missed this! My Land Cruiser has Venezuelan plates front and rear, and the two on the roof rack are from Australia (WA) and South Africa.

Hella 500's. Driving on the inside, floods on the outside. Seems to work well, but they need to be re-wired correctly.

Right on.. i just installed 4 of the HELLA 500's floods on my INTI too. Fit perfect.
Bright enough to see where im going.. but not so bright it blinds other drivers..
