High quality photographs are starting to circulate, so I thought I'd give them their own thread. These are just a few that I ran across in the JU JK forum.

I'm warming up to this new Jeep pretty quickly. Was there any doubt? This appears to be a 2wd Sahara model, but I think it'd be much more interesting in Rubicon trim.

I might vomit if the Wrangler is offered in 2wd...
As far as that design is concerned, it is ugly...
...but ugly grows on me, and function is more important:victory: I like it too, but the sectional roof scares me.
I'm still not overly impressed with the idea of a V6 and the heavy 4 door. Where is the 4.7 V8? That or the diesel would be a deal breaker for many people.

Me too
As far as that design is concerned, it is ugly...
The front fenders look like they are sagging (plastic as I remember). It could be a preproduction issue.

The jury is still here on the new 4 door. I think it could grow on me though. I don't think it looks as cool as the FJ Cruiser though.
Why on earth would they make a 2wd Wrangler??????(hypothetical, please do not answer, as I already know the answer.)
Scott, it looks as thought the fenders are designed with that downward slant, and I agree, it looks kinda strange. But aren't they supposed to be removable? If so, wait for the aftermarket to come out with non "sagging" looking fenders and slap those on.
I do think my wife will really like these though. Who knows, there might be one in my driveway before there is an FJ cruiser, and I think that makes me sad:o

But aren't they supposed to be removable?
This is an evil and untrue rumor, I'm afraid. They are removable as any fender is removable, but I don't believe they are designed with easy removal in mind.

Can someone photoshop the hardtop to be the same color as the body?
Is it just me or does the 4door hardtop remind anyone else of a 110" Defender? Maybe this is why I'm liking it so much.

I tend to agree with you, Carl. Its distinctly Jeep, however the vertical pillars are definately Defender-esque. I think I might've preferred it if they followed suit with the roll bar.
It took them 10 years, but we finally got our Dakar. :)

Good info here, looks like it will be available with the Rubicon package
http://www.rockcrawler.com/reviews/jeep/wrangler_2007/unlimited/debut/index.asp
Another article said that a diesel engine would be available for "international" markets but does not sound like in the US. Maybe you could pick up a diesel in Canada and drive it down!
datrupr
04-12-2006, 07:16 PM
More likely than not, if the diesel is not going to be available in the US, then Canada will not get it either. I could be wrong though.
I would think that with the success of the CRD in the Liberty they would also put it in the new Wrangler. Who knows what the logic is behind that.

I have it on good authority that we're going to see a diesel Grand Cherokee starting with the 2007.5 model year. I'd venture to guess that the first domino has fallen, and diesel availability will continue make its rounds through the line-up.

that new 4 door w/ hardtop looks alot better than the dakar! The wheelbase is quite long, longer than a Land Cruiser! It's going to be interesting on trails...
It's way cool looking tho, paint the hardtop, Rubicon pkg and it's about the coolest looking new suv. Diesel and it would make me really jealous indeed.

Long wheelbase is nice in most situations that you'd want a 4 door with more capacity anyways...

I have to disagree that the new 4 door looks better than the Dakar. I think the dakar is way cooler looking IMO. Either way, if they throw a diesel in it I would seriously consider standing in line for one.

This is the only Jeep that I have liked , If they offer it with a V8 or a diesel , I can definietly put this on my list when i go shopping for a new truck/suv in a couple years .
As long as Chevrolet doesn't come out with a great looking Fullsize pickup by then , I can see this as my choice for sure .
If the tires were more agressive , maybe even 31's , I am sure it would change the whole look of it . Those tires are just plain wimpy .

I quote Mike Donoughe, vice president of the Wrangler's body-on-frame product team.
The X and Sahara versions feature the second-generation Command-Trac part-time, two-speed transfer case, featuring a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. An optional Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential provides extra torque and grip during low-traction situations. The top-of-the-line Rubicon comes with an Off-Road Rock-Trac two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio, as well as electric front- and rear-axle lockers, Active Sway Bar System and 32-inch B.F. Goodrich off-road tires.
Under the hood is a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 205 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque; it can be teamed with either the standard 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic. This engine provides more power as well as better fuel economy than the 4.0-liter engine it replaces.
A diesel engine will be available in certain markets outside North America—the first time in a Wrangler.
Wrangler Unlimited will be sold in more than 100 countries throughout the world, in both left- and right-hand-drive configurations, with sales beginning in North America this fall. Available as the X, Sahara or Rubicon, pricing will be announced closer to its on-sale date.
So it sounds like us here in N.A. aren't going to be seeing the diesel off the bat, and yet diesel sales in the Liberty passed all of Jeeps forecasts. Oh well

It's a very similar system to the power wagon. The end links don't disconnect but rather the swaybar itself has a break in the middle that at the push of a button separates so the two sides flex independently. Perty cool idea.

I've been following this thread with interest. I've been a fan of JEEP for many years. We've owned four: 1964 Wagoneer, '64 CJ3A, '68 CJ5, and a '84 Cherokee. They all performed well for us except the '64 Wagoneer. We had valve problems from the get-go with it and we negotiated a deal with the dealer for the CJ3A.
The Cherokee made a trip to the Yukon in '88.
We saw several Liberties in South Africa this past January and two were all tricked out with mods (snorkels, sliders, etc.).

On a side note. Any of you want to hazard a guess as to the location of the ad photos above? I'm betting that among us we can come up with the spot.

Well, I was all ready to start saving for that F-250 to get some extra room now that the kid has arrived, because even though I saw some spy shots of the 4 door a few months ago, I just couldn't picture it having much cargo room. Well, it appears it holds it's own... maybe not as much as a fullsize truck with topper, but packed right, it could carry a decent bit of equipment.
Ah, choices choices...
Good thing that I have about a 2 year timespan to decide, while I pay off the Wrangler I have now...
2 years gives plenty of time for DC to get it right with a Diesel.
And just when I thought I was gonna have to get out of a Jeep...
I was a big fan of the Gladiator, but I think I dig this more.
Except that color. Ick.

I am watching this with extreme interest, because I need a more family friendly replacement for my Wrangler, and no matter how many 80's and Taco's or F-250's I dream about, I keep on coming back to the JK as probably the best choice for me for several reasons. Those prices look really nice. That nav system looks awesome too. Wonder if when it is available if it can be had on an otherwise basic Wrangler Rubi. No power windows for me. All I want is a Rubi with 4 doors, 6 gears, 20 gig worth of maps and a full tank of gas.:D

I had the chance to play around with one last week.
I really like the thing. Jeep products are starting to reflect the Benz design and quality. Interior is simple, with great ergonomics. Front seats are very comfy, with side impact options. Loads of rear seat room with cool rear doors.
I can certainly notice the increased room, with a wider console and room to sit five in the rear.
Longer control arms and much heavier steering components. V6 allows lots of room in the engine bay.
I have STRONG positive feelings about this model. It just might be the FZJ80 of this decade (yes, really).
Oh, no pictures... sorry
Hello Scott,
Did you get to drive the new 4 door. If so how was the V6. I can't decide if I should order one or wait for a possible different engine maybe late in 07?

No, I could not drive it, and it was a mule too, so fit and finish was as expected.

Justin,
I'm not sure what engine you would be waiting for, I think you have one choice. My dreams of the 3.7/4.7 v6/v8 family going in this model disappeared and CA won't see a diesel version until at least 2009 when we have low sulfer diesel here.
I hope this vehicle is well made and successful, I really do. Stuff keeps falling off my Liberty and it only has 30,000 mi:yikes: My wife keeps saying she'll never get another Jeep and I'm like "but honey, don't say NEVER", hey, you never know what they might build:p
I certainly like the styling and 4 real doors better than the FJ Cruiser though!
I guess the good news is I won't be in the market for a while so I don't have to choose;)

actually, I think FZJ70 would be more accurate. It's very similar to the S. American FZJ70 in it's "barebones wagon" design.
I really like it and w/ a diesel, like I said, would be looking hard at it. It's a cool wagon, gotta check out the underside to see how beefy it is.
The minivan V6 is not a positive imo.

3.0L V6 Diesel...
Huh? Call me Floyd Christmas; I thought it was a straight 5/6 diesel that Jeep was putting in the GC! Diesel engine's were made to be inline configured. Even Mercedes went back with their 3.2l to a straight design from a planned V6 due to longevity issues. GM failed with their rebadged V8 gasoline-turned-diesel; did also not Ford have and continue to have some V8 issue with the PowerStroke? http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ford+powerstroke+diesel+problems&btnG=Google+Search
Would not the 2.8l I4 be a better fit?
I tell you what, I don't even care anymore, just please give us a diesel (any configuration) in these Jeep products. I still say, put the 2.8l I4 CRD in the Rubi (with manual tranny BTW) and I'll sell the 3fj40 and the Ford Probe and buy one and post pictures of it all over ih8mud. :O
Today's my Birthday, I'll take the white one please!! With a Diesel of course. Thanks for the photograph Chris. Made my day.:D

I sure hope the thing is as uncomfortable as a hooker in a church pew...otherwise I'm going to want one badly.
LMAO! I haven't heard that one before :xxrotflma
Yea, thanks for the pic of the white one Chris! Damn, that's a fine looking vehicle. Good thing they won't have a diesel or I'd have to get one. Just imagine those rear doors and seats all gone... mild lift with 33's... and a slick camper setup on the back...

I dont get it...apparently i'm the only one here who thinks this vehicle is butt ugly.
Dont get me wrong, i love the Ruby options and a stretched wheelbase, just cant deal with a 4 door Wrangler and that redesigned front end.
I hope everybody trades in their 05-06 Rubicon Unlimiteds...and drives the resale value down. :jump:

Function over form amigo :sombrero:
The same reason a G-Wagon or 70 series LC looks like the most beautiful rig in the world to me.

C'mon, afterall, the Unimog looks like one of those dogs where you can't tell the butt from the face...and heck, I drool over those things...the Unimog I mean.

BWAHAHAHA!!!! Drool over those things. hilarious! Good catch by adding "Unimog I mean."
Let's not be too limiting. If certain butts and faces have a reasonable amount of form over function, you'd probably drool over those too. Maybe on them.
Well, having the opinion that the new Wrangler is ugly is perfectly legal. And honorable, John! Beauty is in the eye... But I'll bet that it grows on you. I, too, find something odd about the details in the new design (like the top, fender flares). But I also think my reaction is to the change in design from the beautiful TJ, and not really to the new unit on her own. Rage! Rage against the machine that brainwashed us American consumerists to dislike change! Grrrrr. :smilies27
I'd argue that even the TJ looks ugly in some respects, though.

I had the opposite reaction where I didn't really care for Jeeps at all. Not that I thought they were ugly, just... ubiquitous.
I guess b/c I just like wagons so this Jeep seems really cool. I like the styling too. Offroad tough looking w/o the Hummer stigma

Autoweek reports that Cummins is planning to produce two new diesel engines for light trucks. The smaller is a 4.2-liter V-6 that produces 190 hp and 455 lbs.-ft. of torque. Dodge will put this engine in its RAM 1500 light pickup. It would fit under the hood of the new Jeep Wrangler, too.
However, Jeep has already announced it will use the new Mercedes V6 diesel in the Grand Cherokee. It's a 3.0 liter V6 turbodiesel with 215 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. The 4-door Wrangler is about the same size and weight as the Grand Cherokee, so I'm thinking it makes more sense to put the Mercedes V6 in the Wrangler, rather than the Cummins V6.

Damn 455 ft.lbs. of torque in the small Cummins! :wings: I wish they would choose that motor!
I was the same as Life_in_4Lo I never really liked Jeeps before this one.

That much torque, I would think they would need a beefier drivetrain, say a Dana 60 or thereabouts. Which would be sweet....but....
I think the Mercedes is probably a better call. Actually, European Wranglers will have the CRD available. Whatever that one is will probably be the diesel the US Wrangler gets...IF....it gets it at all....

tell me that is not just SWEET!
They might revoke my TLCA membership for saying this, but I'd take that 4door Rubicon over the FJCruiser based soley on appearence. I'm sure in the hands of a seasoned driver they're equally capable on the trail.
And it's a convertible.....:sunny:

some kind of similarities with olb models. the 2007 jeep 4 door without the top will look lot like this.

Hmm, good idear with that Defender...I bet someone will probably make a 'bedcover' for the rear, and I bet a good tube bender could do a big ol' external cage/rack like that, too. Hmmm. Sweet!
A lot of the Jeep purists are bemoaning the new model (not all of them, though) but I think this model could prove to be the most popular EVER. At least with this crowd. Halfway got me believing with all the action this thread has that come next year, it will be White JK's rather than Taco's that are the standard....;)

(The View 360 is in small print on the right side, about 1/3 of the way down on the page)

Nope, you're not the only one. Butt ugly is my assessment. Even with a diesel, no way.
