My friend Alvaro just got these imported and they are really cool. It is my #1 choice for a roofrack (still deciding on the rooftent option tho)
Anyway, check it out

Nice rack :)

I like the divider up front and the rock screen. I also noticed the tie down rings and cad plated bracketry.

Looks to be a bolt-together too. I would be interested to hear more on the hardware (nylocks, etc.)

Sorry I'm a bit thin on tech specs. I'll email Alvaro this thread to fill in.

I've waited 10+ years to see these imported into the US, they're by far the best roof rack I've seen out there...prior to Alvaro's venture, there were only a handful of these in the country, maybe a half dozen or so, mostly other Venezuelan ex-pats like me who just couldn't bring themselves to go with another rack....

Just heard back from Gary @ Mudrak! The racks are $1095!

I saw Alvaros in person at last years Surf and Turf and it was top notch and worth every penny! Very cool stuff!

Are they steel or aluminum?

The price reflects the monumental effort of getting these out of Venezuela, especially with the current political climate.

The base is aluminum (combination of channel, extruded runners and rectangular tubing), the feet and super-structure are steel. Light, strong, designed to tweak and save your vulnerable (and $$$ to repair) rain gutters. The front section is designed to hold 7 NATO jerry cans across the top.

Scott,

The frame and the ribs on the rack are made of aluminum. The gutter mounts are steel. So is the tubing around the rack. You can hold up to 7 jerry cans on the front basket. However, I don't recommend it. It makes the cruiser harder to drive. It also has 4 mounts behind the grill for putting aux. lights. It's a tough rack.

The nylocks are used on the side rails. These rails can open to the outside. Leaving a wider open space up top. Some people modify these side rails to accomodate their roof top tents. Leaving the basket space in the front to carry water and extra fuel.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards

Alvaro

Thanks so much for the feedback Alvaro. Are you intending to import these units for the 60 and 80 series?

Oh, and nice to see you in our little sandbox... :arabia:

Welcome Alvaro :jumping:

Importing these racks into the US was no small feat - you have the vision of Michael Angelo and the patience of a saint

That is soooooo close to what I was hoping to have my nephew make me. I don't suppose they make an FJ40 sized one? I'm not sure he could duplicate that for the same price, given all the fittings and aluminum.

JH,
you could cut down this rack (but check with alvaro on making it fit a 40- maybe the width will be an issue)

I have seen all kinds of Venzuelan offroad videos and they all use INTI racks of various design.
I even saw one that was JUST the jerry can section, the remainder of the roof was taken by a Ezi-Awn tent. It looked really cool.

off topic a little but what is the difference btw the Ezi-Awn and the Overland tents? Wouldn't you need to cut off the rear bars to attach the tents?

Here is the ezi-awn

You can flip down the sides of the INTI rack or leave the sides off altogether
Slee also has the African Outback rack option

This is an old thread. However I want one of these racks for my 100 series Cruiser. I ran an internet search, and actually saw a FJ Cruiser at the FJForums site with one on it. I don't think he was in the USA however.

Can these be had for the 100 anywhere? Can anyone manufacture them in the USA to keep from having to import them? It's such a good rack, it's a shame nobody has done more to have these around.

Mudraks cruisers around Napa is the place to get them from. I don't think you can buy straight from Alvaro (Although I may be wrong, if I am then A's the guy to see).

T think they are all out of the FJ60 racks with no plans to import more. Check with Mudrak he may have some for the 80s. You might also wait, there is a company in Utah building something called a Mule rack that looks sweet. They are keeping pretty hush hush until they're ready for full blown production but there are some pics on a thread about expedition americas over on mud.

No, he was definitely in the USA, and purchased his INTI from Mudrak. :D

Of the 20 racks I brought there's only one 60 series rack left.
Due to Chavez' monetary policies, it's not possible to import anymore racks at this time.

I'm really happy that we were able to make them available in the US. A lot of people had asked for them for years. Initially sales were very slow, but towards the end they flew off the shelf. To those who have them, thank you very much. For those who would like one, we look forward to the day when we can import them again.

Alvaro

What are the dimesions for this rack? I heard they are the 3/4 and not the full length.

DBS,

For the 60 Series, the 3/4 length rack is aprox. 79" x 52", plus the light cage which is 8 inches long.

Thanks, at least one 60 series please. I fell asleep at the wheel on getting the last one, but I did find out that I might not need surgery on my neck. :D

I will never forget the day when one of my buddies emailed me a link on the web...

We were super lucky and found our INTI on craigslist here in SoCal 2 years ago. And when i mean lucky, i mean full length, with ladder and limb risers for $750! The guy apparently moved here from South America and brought it with him. It still needs to be torn apart, blasted and powder coated (still has the original hand brushed paint on it), but shoot... we couldn't have been luckier IMHO.

I got my Inti rack today. After much struggle, wringing of hands, fighting with PayPal (which I didn't end up using), and waiting on Fed Ex to arrive......

It's here. There were a few scuff marks on it, but being all the way from Venezuela via Alvaro and Mudraks, I kind of expected a little scratched paint. I went out and got some flat black primer and flat black paint. I've been painting the side rails, light guard and cross braces this evening.

Tomorrow I paint the gray pieces I got from ARB previously (I had originally intended to buy an ARB rack) flat black as well. The 100 doesn't have gutters, so I have to figure out a way to mount the rack to the ARB roof mounts. My plan is to finish assembling the rack, and then remove the factory roof rail trash and install the ARB mounts. Once that's acomplished, I'll set the rack on top of the 6 mounts and see how I can fasten everything solid.

I had to buy a few things from Harbor Frieght. I got a rivet gun, and also some torx drivers. The torx drivers are required to remove the factory rails. A T15 and T30 are required. The bolts are accessable by popping the plastic covers straight up and off the rails. I also bought two bottles of medium strength thread locker to use on all my bolts which don't have nylocks.

I also wanted to say that while the side rails are made out of some somewhat small diameter tubing, it is built with quality in mind. The welding is first rate. Also, the main thing to be concerned about on a rack is what is supporting your load. All that gear is supported by aluminum. Aluminum you say? Yeah, but you have to see it. The company uses aluminum, but the way they do it is smart. Using architecture rather than brute strength. I am sure the aluminum is quite strong, but the way they built it, it's design that is giving the strength. Aluminum cross members are all rectangular tubing, and the sides and front are c-channel. All put together like a nice puzzle. As well, there are 8 wide aluminum slats for the decking of the rack. These attach to the rack and become part of the rack. All weight is set on these slats, which are supported by all the aluminum joists which cross the roof.

It's a bit of a complex piece of work, but it's smart. Someone put a lot of thought into the design of this roof rack.

Fed Ex ship weight was 105 lbs by the way.

PS- The light guard is awesome.....

PSS- Many thanks to Alvaro for making this rack possible. I owe him a steak dinner!

INTI racks are awesome. I bought mine USED for $1000. I know of only 1 other INTI in the US on a Range Rover. Awesome racks though. They carry Nato 20L cans perfectly without additional mounts and I've even slept on it without anything but a sleeping bag. Great racks. Worth twice the price.

I had your Range Rover as screen saver for a month a while back..... Of the rovers, the Range Rover County is my favorite.

Putting the Inti on my 100 is costing me a lot more than the average person in time and money. However when finished, it will be worth it. Just in extra steel and mounts to put it on has already cost me about $400 over the rack cost. That's not including my labor to modify the ARB roof mounts (2 of them with holes improperly spaced).
