I know Chip Haven only from what I have read online.
In light of a recent post, I want single out Mr. Haven for his efforts.
Chip Haven is a Moderator and major contributor to the camper section of Expo. Invited by Scott Brady, he came over from ExpeditionCampers.com and brought with him threads that form a historical foundation to this section.
Always on the look out for newly released items of note, he helps keep this board fresh. His posts show a sincere interest in the subject.
His endeavors aid in making this a great forum for the exchange of ideas.
Thanks Chip!

Good thread. I don't know Chip, and I know less about campers, but I always notice his class-act level of contribution with every post he makes.

Chip started the thread http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2291 that prompted Doug W "1976K5Chalet" to join, who in turn invited me to join. Good man to share what he knows!

Chip, I also wish to thank you for all the infomative posts you have produced over the years. YOu have been one of the biggest contributors to this and expedition campers forums and they would not be nearly as good without your contributions.
This really begs a few questions however. Despite all the infomation that you have generously provided all of us you have really not revealed much about yourself. Do you have a camper of one in the works? If so is it top secret? Have you done any expedition camping that you would care to share with the rest of us? Where do you live? Inquiring minds want to know. Of coarse, no pressure.

I will heartily raise a toast to Chip too  I've always been impressed with his passion and knowledge of all things 4WD camper related. We're really lucky to have him here at the Portal. Thanks Chip!

I thought this thread was a memorial or something...
Thanks for chiming in Chip, so we know you're still among the living.
And here's a cold one for your excellent, in-depth contributions -

I have to add my .02 to this post:
I have "known" Chip for about 5 years, first thru the forum on the Turtle Expedition site, then thru ExpeditionCampers.com (which Chip ran single handed for a long time) and of course on Expo. What has always impressed me about Chip is his professionalism. Reading a post from Chip is often like reading a magazine article. Chip has a knack for posting interesting and new info in a way that stimulates lively discussion.
Although I consider Chip a friend, I know very little about him, he is a guy that likes to keep his personal life private. We are certainly all lucky to have him on this site.
Heres to you Chip Haven!:clapsmile
Cheers

I somehow missed this thread until now. My apologies for not adding to it earlier.
Chip has had a very large impact on more people, their dreams, and their eventual achievments than anyone could ever know.
You never know when you will be someone's rainbow and Chip has been one to many who have dreamed of, or eventually driven down, the path of an expedition camper.
You could list many reasons that ExPo probably has the highest signal to noise ratio of vehicle related online forums. Chip would be among the reasons at the top of that list.
When you see a post from Chip Haven you always know the information will be authoritative and trustworthy. Think about that statement in the context of an online forum. How many people in the virtual community world carry that reputation?
Thanks Chip, for all you have done and all that you do.

When ExpeditionCampers.com's website ended, what happened to all the archives, messages and photos? There was a ton of good stuff there. It would be nice if it was somehow accessible for perusing for a while.. There were a number of photos I'd like to get downloaded for my files..

I, too, missed the thread until now, but wouldn't want to miss an opportunity to acknowledge the enormous contribution Chip makes.
As has been pointed out, his posts are so useful and informative . . . going back to the expeditioncampers days, I don't think he's ever written anything that wasn't worth my time. And I know I'm not the only one who, when reviewing the list of new posts, heads straight for anything Chip has posted, regardless of the topic. One amazingly knowledgeable guy, and an invaluable resource for hundreds of us.

There's too much good info from Mr Haven for him to be just one person. I believe him to be a cyber-entity, a composite avatar assembled from the collective intellect of many overlanders.
BTW, how come Doug and Mark hardly post these days?
Dave, go to Chandler and wake Mark up.
