Here's my truck. '82 BJ60 Toyota LandCruiser with the 3B diesel, AXT turbocharger, PTO winch, A/C, Aussie Locker in the rear, soon to have a limited slip in the front, BDS 2 1/2" lift, 31x10.5 tires to become 33x9.5 when these wear out or move onto my '67 FJ45LV.
I've had the truck since 1989. Originally the truck is from Vancouver Island in B.C., Canada where we lived till 1990 and then in Vancouver, B.C. till 2004 when we started work in Central America. Currently 450,000 Km's on the truck!
We did a trip through Mexico in 2002 and during that trip I discovered that for high altitude travel a turbo on the diesel was essential. It was added in 2003. In preparation for the Central American trip the lift was added as well as A/C to deal with the heat and humidity for us folks from the "Great White North" and the winch. The locker was added to deal with mud during rainy season and the limited slip is for the same reason but a limited slip to allow a little easier steering than a full locker.
So far we have travelled the length of Mexico 5 times, all through Guatemala, Honduras and the north coast of Honduras till the road runs out and El Salvador as well. We've nearly been stuck in northern Guatemala thus the lockers.
Lots of plans for future trips into other areas of Central America and further remote areas we've already partially explored.

Probably no more trips till August/September when we get back from Canada/USA for the summer. But I guess that's also a trip in a way since driving from Guatemala to Canada and back isn't everyones idea of a commute!

Cruiser guy - great photos. Looks as though you and I have bounced over some of the same country. I am to be a father this November and have been looking hard at my short wheelbase Series III Land Rover. Trying to decide whether to stretch it or pick-up a 60 series Toyota. 450,000 kms is certainly encouraging.
Love to hear more about your travels and work.

Here's some of the places we've been over the last year or so. Not exactly expeditions in that they were only a day or two from here in Guatemala City at most but for folks in the states or Canada it would be an expedition to get there!

Henry, why not one of the Japanese direct imports coming in? They are cleaner than a 20 year old Canadian truck and they usually come with all the bells and whistles like factory lockers. The only down side is the right hand drive issues. My daughters boyfriend has a '90 HDJ81 turbo diesel LandCruiser. Very clean and rust free.
