Its from http://www.superkarpata.com/index.php?id=42&L=1&id=1 which is in Austria and Romania. Reminds me of some ones I have seen out of Australia but can't place it.

I have seen several similar campers posted on this and other forums. This one looks like the same make:
http://expeditionportal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=15820&d=1203143949

I have also seen a very similar camper bolted onto a Toyota BJ74, but can't seem to find the pic I am thinking of. I think this is a german camper, can anyone remember seeing a link to this camper manufacturer?

Cheers

Very nice. :punk03:

It's a shame nobody makes a module like that in the US.

Here's another cool pop-up cabin mounted on a Toyota 79 chassis.
I think that diamond shaped antenna is for BGAN satellite internet.

Anyone know if this is a commercial product?

I contacted The Earthroamer guys, and asked if they would consider building something like this which would fit over the back of a wrangler unlimited, they said they don't build "inferior" campers.

their loss I guess, since apparently there is a lot of support and interest on this site for something like it.

I'm not sure who you talked to at EarthRoamer, but I think there has been a misunderstanding. No, we don't build inferior campers - but I would NOT call these inferior campers. In fact, they look pretty cool to me!

I have longed for a camper like this, first for my LJ73 and later for my BJ74. Obviously there is no market on this side of the pond for Cruiser Campers but it seems logical that there might be one for Jeep JKs They seem like the natural choice around here for this type of mod. I think Earthromer's timing was perfect for their version. In light of rising fuel prices, people just don't have the same appetite for class c motorhomes that they once did. I recognized that last summer on the Alaska highway where there was tons of dual purpose bikes, way more than ever before and less motorhomes. I wonder if the Jeep chassis, being a fair amount lighter than the Cruiser is up to this type of mod. If it is, somebody (Earthromer or somebody else) ought to be looking at this business. If Chrysler ever actually puts a diesel into the thing, and the Canadian gov't closes the door to me on JDMs, a JK will be in my future.

Scroll down to the Astro body, maybe that could be a starting point. Cut the roof, make a canvas side for a pop up and reinstall the roof and you are great to go.

Bill,

Welcome to the Expedition Portal!!!!

On a side note to the first camper posted. I like it but do not understand why they do not open the flip out tent ALL the way open. Like a Flip Pac or the EarthRoamer XV-JP that Bill makes. When they do not open all the way, it just fall short for me in that area. All the head room and sleeping area lost just because it does not open all the way.

OR, kind of like mine.....

FYI, you can copy the link then open a Google window and click on Language Tools. Paste the link into the conversion box and it'll translate the page for you. It's amusing on Japanese web pages. Does the French pretty well though. Unfortunately you have to do a page at a time so you can't just jump around on the site. Enjoy.

over at the geocar site (linked above) there is a page with a slide in camper for what appears to be a mid sized Mitsubishi truck at this page:

http://www.geocar.com/vikunja.htm

i would think there'd be a market for similar rigs in the us on the back of TACOs and Nissans.

Welcome to the Expo Portal, Bill. There is quite an increasing numbers of "expedition cabin builders" throughout Europe, especially in Austria, Germany and France, offering from fairly inexpensive empty shells or pop-up roofs to absolutely out-of-this-world luxury desert cruisers. Interestingly, I have not yet seen anybody offering an inexpensive camper shell solution for the JK Unlimited. I'm excited to learn that these cabins appeal to you. I guess I am not the only one looking, hoping, wanting praying for a poor-man XV-JP.

I like how it keeps a pseudo-hard top by not opening all the way up like the Flip Pacs. In our climate up here wind and rain not to mention the merit time snow [i.e. heavy] tents do not last long. If a Westy top can shed some snow I’m sure the Autohome and this model would hold up well also.
