Has anyone considered attaching one of these to their trailer? Looks like you could drive w/ it and/or attach it when you set up. Considering many of us camp in desert climates w/ moderate to high winds...It seems more efficient than solar.
I know that there has been a little discussion. I posted a whle back a link to plans for a DIY one:
If you're the DIY type, here's (http://www.velacreations.com/chispito.html) instructions for making your own out of a treadmill motor and PVC pipe.
Don't laugh. I haven't built one yet, but it really looks well-thought-out and practical.
With a little ingenuity you could make the blades fold for transport.
EDIT: Here's (http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12205&highlight=wind+generator) one of the threads I refered to.

:suning: It's really open for discussion--
--www.northerntool.com has really neat deals, on 400 watt, wind generaters--$500/800 bucks with controller circuitry, but--
--The blades (3) are in at least 3 1/2 ft span and there's always the mounting trouble and blade protection--
--Would be great, solar during the day and windmill at night, but the cost and security ????
--On the internet, GE has some 1.5 KW wind gens, for personal home use, but here agfain, cost-starting about $8000 bucks, then PERMIT costs-WOW

I think the key would be if the blades were (made to be) removable, then you could sheath them in a canvas or leather case for transport/storage. I can see this mounted to the front of a trailer when you are on pavement for recharge. It would be quite an expensive experiment.
I could do it with the right sponsorship though....:hehe:

Driving with the wind turbine would be counter productive. Your vehicle would use more fuel pushing the extra wind resistance from the turbine than it would use just to charge the batteries from an alternator attached directly.
