Hot on the heels of my sleeping platform, I finally found the perfect unit to be the basis for my Carputer system. It's a little-known tablet PC made by Fujitsu a few years back. 500MHz Pentium 3, 512mb/15gb, touchscreen, wireless keyboard, wireless internet, GPS, Streets & Trips, and roughly 10 days of music, all for under $400 shipped to the door. I'll have a full writeup when I escape the new job, but here are a few teaser pix next to my 15" PowerBook for comparison.

That's really cool. Can't wait to see the whole write-up.

Is that your BMW? Kinda looks like an older 5-series?

Full writeup should be available sometime next week... Gotta impress the bosses, y'know :D

Chuck - yah, it's an '87 535iS. Admittedly, that is my first love. 350k miles on original engine and tranny. I've installed Racing Dynamics springs, Bilstein Sport shocks, heavy duty bushings, M5 front control arms, M535i rear stuff, the shifter from a Z3, and a few other goodies.

It is a Fujitsu Stylistic LT C-500. I got it refurbed from Mr. Sleazy's House of Used and Obsolete Computers (http://www.productresale.com)

Looks cool! That's a project i've been wanting to do for a while now. How's the screen visibility in sunlight?

I'm gonna be testing it out on a trip up to Tahoe this weekend. (Not in the truck, alas)

Screen gets washed, but in high contrast mode is still usable even in direct sunlight. I'll try to get some pictures. My main worry is actually heat tolerance - it's rated for -4 to 110 or something, but I bet it could get hotter right under the windshield.
