I bought one of these vents (http://www.austinhardware.com/product.asp?dept%5Fid=210&pf%5Fid=1677)for $15.99. I thought it would be worth trying. I am thinking i will put it under my roof top tent rack facing the wind. If I like it, I will buy another one to act as an exhaust vent on the down wind side of my truck.
I always, if I can, park with my truck broadside to the wind so that my roof top tent catches the wind on the short side. See picture.... note the trash bag on my CB antenna used as a wind vane.
My plan is to eventually add a filter to it to prevent dust ingress and a possitive pressure/hot air fan.

neat! i'm not familiar with how that would be mounted in your setup. would you have to cut the skin / superstructure to mount it? or do you have suitable places to mount it without much destruction?

I had thought about getting one of those solar powered vents for my shell but I just can't bring myself to cut the fiberglass. :smilies27

That looks great... similar to what I've been looking for. I've been looking for a vent I could mount in the roof of the camper shell to open at night to cut the condensation build-up... this may be the ticket. A couple questions...
- Did you buy it from that site?
- Does it have a gasket on it to keep it watertight when shut?

Yes, I am going to have to decide if I have enough guts when it comes time to cut.

You can buy a gasket for mounting it to the shell. The lid also has a gasket in it.
I think by design it should not leak unless you don't seal it to the shell in the first place or you have rain blowing into it. The vent is raised ~0.5" above the mounting flange.

Ask UncleChris to do it for you! He gets a kick out of cutting/drilling holes into trucks. :)

I felt bad enough when I drilled holes in it for the Yakima tracks- three days old and I was punching holes in it. It'll take me a while to built up the nerve to do it again LOL.
I'll be interested in seeing how that vent looks in place.
So those "Two-way hingeless" vents will flip open either way and induct or evacuate air?? kinda cool...

I went through that, too.

Yep, they are actually pretty cool for the $16 I spent.
They sent me the wrong gasket, so I am waiting on that. I am thinking I will buy one more.... one intake and one exhaust.
They also have preset fractional settings..... (diples that allow you to open it only part of the way for finer control).
