Hi there,

I’m planning a year long trip throughout Mexico, Central and South America and I’m looking for traveling partners. I’m planning on leaving this fall from Orange County, CA, but my schedule is entirely flexible.

I’ll be traveling alone, but with my dogs and yes, I know I'm crazy to take two dogs with me. I know I'll be limiting myself, I know people in that part of the world don't like dogs etc, etc. Although I've never done an expedition like this before, I've traveled a lot in the US with my dogs, we’ve gone coast to coast together. And on my own (without dogs) I've traveled a lot throughout Mexico my whole life and I speak Spanish fluently.

I'm trying to get in touch with as many people who will be headed my way as I can. Since I will be alone I'm hoping to find others to caravan with during the trip, but I also don't want to impose on any one group for too long. So far I've found three different parties headed my way, but you never know. One of them already seems sorta flakey to me, pretty bad sign considering what they are planning I’m afraid. I hope to be able to travel together with others for portions of the trip and then head in my own direction for a while and meet up again later, back and forth like that.

Obviously if anyone is allergic, scared of or dislikes dogs we probably shouldn’t travel together. I wouldn't want to ruin that person's wonderful adventure by traveling with them!!

that is so cool that you have the flexibility and initiative to do this. wow! sorry that i'm stuck and couldn't partake in such an adventure. i hope you find what you're looking for (and to a degree, that what you're looking for finds you). do you plan to have any kind of blog going for this? that's the kind of epic experience that deserves to be documented.

Thanks for your good wishes. I'm totally stoked about it, despite huge misgivings by most of my relations. (Even those living in Mexico.) Sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do!

I've been looking at a bunch of websites chronicling trips, (Ihana just cracks me up!) and have considered it. Honestly, I haven't had much time or inclination to set it up. But I have come up with a name: Atomic Dog! Adventures. Maybe I’ll get my cousin to design it for me, he did the website for my business. Hmm…

Cheers! Adriana

Have you seen this journey:
http://www.expeditionoverland.com/index.htm

They give quite a few details about their border crossing experiences, some easy, some a headache (for example, entering Columbia from Ecuador).

Looks like a great site. I'll spend some time checking that out. I've also learned a lot from www.overland-underwater.com (http://www.overland-underwater.com)

Sounds like you have an incredible trip planned! Michael and Sandy from expeditionoverland are great people, and will certainly answer specific questions if you email them. You might also check the HUBB (horizons unlimited forum). Lots of overlanders there with a wealth of experience and knowledge.

I wish we could caravan along for a while, but our Americas trip is still a couple of years out. Are you planning on getting a carnet for this trip?

cheers!

Yes, l've been looking into a carnet. Sorry you can't join me. I'm thinking of possibly working in South America when I'm done traveling so maybe I'll see you when you do start on your journey. BTW, That HUbb forum is huge, that's a great resource thank you.
