Hi all,
I'm looking at driving across the Sahara this coming October & November (in a Landcruiser) starting from the UK and traveling through France to Tunisia, across to southern Algeria by ferry and then down to Niger, probably as far as Agadez (central Niger).
No great hurry in doing the trip, so 6 to 8 weeks is probably a sensible timeframe to cross and have a look around a few of the better sites that the Sahara offers.
I'm looking for a few travellers to share the adventure & costs with, 2-3 would be ideal...
Notes:
You'll need to bring some simple camping equipment
By law we have to hire a guide in Algeria
Flights back from Niger to France are quite cheap - about 200/300 euros - or you can continue on down through Africa overland
I'll sort out the visa's/guides/ferries (visa's depend on yourpassport somewhat) etc
You'll need good medical insurance
Leaving about the middle of October from London
It will be an adventure! You must be prepared to rough it with plenty of camping in the desert with little water and the risk of things going wrong.
Anybody considered, but must be easy going with a sense of humour
I'm still looking into the rough costs, and it will depend on how many of us go, but please register your interest if you are interested.
