Lower profile rack for XJ?

I have a Yakima rain gutter mount rack for my XJ and my roof tent rides about 5" above the car. Is there another rack out there that sits closer and can handle a roof tent?

Does the rack use the 1A towers?

If it does, you can make a low profile fram out of say, 3/4" square tubing and some plate.

A rack like this will only sit about 1/2" above the factory roof rails.

This is a Kevin's roof rack for the XJ, the back part is only about 4" tall with the front lower. I have one on my WJ after a Thule system, I've since integrated the two somewhat but really like the Kevin's rack by itself.

how close is the kevins to the factory rails on the top, .5", 1" ??

This is a good company I have their rear bumper and sliders. They will modify for you too. I am getting this RACK (http://www.jcroffroad.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=XJ1RCK&Category_Code=RCK) they are adding an additional mount on each side so it will more readily support a RTT.

Those are some nice looking safari racks, but I want something simple, cheap, and most especially light weight.

how close is the kevins to the factory rails on the top, .5", 1" ??

About 2-1/2" in front 4" in back.
