All,
I have been lurking here for quite some time and I have to say this is a great site with fantastic information!!!
Now onto my question :) I would like to install an extremeaire compressor on my JK Unlimited, but I can't figure-out a good place to mount it... Has anyone done this? Could anyone recommend a specific spot?
Thanks,
Jason

Thats a pretty vague description. It really depends on what you want to do with it. If it activates lockers you may want it under the hood near your existing air lines for easy plumbing. If its for tires then perhaps in the back near the back seats or on top of a fender out of the way with some air line. Personally i would mount it in the back, then plumb lines to the front and rear bumpers with quick connects so you dont need to carry 25' of hose.

Good point. This will be used for airing up after trail runs. At this point, I am still undecided if I want a tank or not...
One criteria is to not install it inside the cab of the vehicle as I do not want to sacrifice the interior storage space.
I know on the TJs people were mounting them to the inside of the fenderwell under the hood. But that's not an option on the JK's unless I remove the stock air filter box which I would prefer not to do.

Try asking on JeepForum's JK section (http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=96). I can't remember which guy mounted one up, but it looked slick.

If what you want to do is to air up tires, I would suggest another route. Consider a PowerTank - liquid (compressed) CO2. This is by far the most cost effective and power/weight ratio efficient means I have found. I've been using it for 2 years with complete satisfaction.

that's the route i'm going. there's virtually no space under the hood!

I've though about the PowerTank option, but came to the conclusion it wasn't for me. I couldn't get around the need to keep getting it refilled. Not the price of the refills, just the act of doing it. I have a problem prediciting when the propane tank on the grill is going to run out and going to get it filled :yikes: However, I would like the speed of airing up it provided.

I've thought about the PowerPlant, but I think one day I will go with the AEV or ARB front bumper, and it doesn't work well with those.

It will fit the ARB but definitely not the AEV.

:sombrero: Get the ARB HP compressor from AlphaExpedition.com
ARB-HP compressor--CKMA12HP/AC, not the one for lockers
Bolts to special bracket that attaches to the Brake fluid assy

I use mine for tires/mattress's/airtents/HP air blower/fishing boat/airtank--jolly good show !!

Sorry, Jimbo. I've got 'em smoked with my new mounting plate.
Check out Parnelli Jones' JK Build thread. Why would anybody add that vibrating, bouncing weight to their BRAKE system? What IF that bracket were to fail and remove the master cylinder from its place?

:sombrero: Heh Heh, I don't think you've ever seen the bracket and how it attaches
But it could fail, in a front end collision !!

That's cool. You can attach yours to the brakes, and I'll attach mine to the FRAME.

Awww.
Come On. 6 to one... A half-dozen to another.... I'm just having some fun.
Maybe, a little banter would do this Forum some good. Some REAL Fabrication and Design discussions, anyone?

:wings: Don't worry blueeyes, That was my fault, cause I just dropped the conversation-I had an emergency intruder
I don't favor the way the other "build" has his compressor mtd. because !!
It restricts radiator air flow (further), hampers oil filter change, places the compressor to close to water/mud/snow intrusion and puts the attachments to close to 'ROTATING MASS"
The sys I'm using has the comp. mtd high, uses a powdercoated 3/16 steel bkt, mtd betwwen the brake fluid reservoir and the booster, uses self-locking nuts and hasn't loosened in 6 months
It's not hard piped, so you do have to open the hood to use it, Thats a minor inconvenience, because whenever I do that I can check the depth of my fuel rods and the operation of the valve position indicators (VPI)-Heh Heh
Good day in the morning

Personally I like both mounting plates. It really boils down too what compressor you want mounted. The ARB compressors are pretty compact and can be mounted in several locations on the JK. The bracket that attaches to the brake master cylinder happens to make for a nice easy clean installation. This bracket will also work for the viair 4X0 compressors. However, if you want to mount a larger compressor like an ExtremeAire, Puma, or the really big viairs, the new bracket from pjs is pretty sweet!! It puts it in unused space and keeps it out of the cabin.

I'm toying with the idea of going ahead and installing a :snorkel: on the OBA. That way I'll have no worries about water.

Resurrection Alert!
I just ordered a mounting plate from PJ's. I too am concerned about water getting into the comp. Anyone with ideas or experiences with a fix/work-around?
blueeyeddevil,
Did you ever fashion an intake for the compressor? If so, how about some details.

How much was the plate and do they have any more in stock? Contact info?

The ARB let's you just use some tubing to relocate the air inlet wherever you want. However, it does say not to use the intake box due to the vacuum that it creates.

Not cheap! $175. But worth it to me. It didn't sound like it's a stock item -- didn't find it on their web site. They told me it would take about a week to make it for me.
Edit: Removed contact info (Not sure if that's allowed here -- have to read the rules. Sorry.)
PM'ed keithro with info.

lol.....While I'm still pretty new here, I'm fairly sure that the rabid censorship that might be found on some other sites (JK related perhaps?:hehe:) is not alive and well here.... :friday:

Yeah, I caught grief for just listing what I had done to my Jeep's front axle assembly. Used the wrong parts, I guess.

the designer has yet to find a sizable area for the tank but maybe this will give you some ideas...if the the extremeaire is not to large.
