My concern is how it appears to only bolt to the side metal, which is pretty flimsy. They may put bracing behind it but if not I'm not sure I'd out a tent and then additional weight on it.

Indeed interesting, also as was said it looks like it might not take the weight of a tent. I saw pictures and all they had on it were bicycles, I could not find it on the Bestop site.

Looks to me that it may have tabs that allow it to bolt to the holes that attach the hard top, might be a great solution.

Nifty.
I just want a place to put some firewood; I hope it's rated to at least 200 pounds dynamic....

I saw this rack at Sema and spoke to the people at Bestop. It is a prototype, and the unique feature about this rack is that is does not bolt on, it altually just sits on the tub rail. It simply grabs the rail as your softtop does, and is fixed by the weight of the bike rack. I am not sure if this thing will hold when you drive at fwy speeds. It is not in production, but a prototype, and bestop featured it to get feedback...

i think the first rack sits below the top just like mine does :-) i wondered when somebody would come up with that idea...

the other one i personally like for the looks but don't like because i wanna be able to take off the rack and leave on the hardtop...

here's a pic of how mine's attached:

oh, btw:
i got mine through the tough tech. inspection here in germany and best of all: they didn't put a weight limit on it.
(so i can even park a car up there :-))

that looks very strong,, currenty im debating into re-doing mine.
Im worried the front light bar will crack on the seems with the weight of my
roof tent, .

mine's a prototype too :-)
i build it so that i still can take out the two front hardtop panels (well, i could take off the rear too, but where do i store that on the road :-))

i'll still add ight boxes like on my xj and put spare tire and spare can mounts up there. of course i will through on a storage box as well...

i've got all winter to do this :-)

I just installed a roof rack and RTT on my 2007 JK. I will post some pics soon. The roof rack and custom basket are by Wildboar, the basket is a prototype, so the rack can handle a RTT.

Sven, habe deine Web Seite gecheckt, sehr cool, jetzt koennen wir Deutsch reden... ;)

i'd rebuild it from an aesthetic standpoint. i'm all about form and function going together, not one taking precedence over the other. if it works, then good for you, but i'd rebuild it to look better.

not bashing it, as i'm too scared to even put my tent-cot on my roof rack! tehe...
