What do you all think about this for a fiirst time monocog???? Im looking for a bike to screw around with at work and to ride to my car and back....long frekin way...anyway I digress....thoughts on this bike???

I have one, it is actually not so bad. the components are really crappy and it's heavy as well. Sure can't beat the price and really they are pretty good quality. If you want onw in XL I'd sell it for only $220 as I hardly ride it (good townie). You need to regear the chainring to 32 tooth and then it handles well on the trail. I really like the Kenda Nevegal tires but they are just big heavy trucks in 29er form, for what it's worth. They do grip like it's going out of style though... There are better lighter options, for example the Panaracer Rampage is similar but lighter/better.

If you can score a Gary Fisher that would be a good option. I recently sold a lightly used one for about $600 that was brand new or basically a couple rides. Used probably not too much more than a new Outkast. They are on ebay all the time too, and you can always 'build' the Fisher with quality components. Mine weighed in at about 22lbs which for a 29er under $500 isn't too bad...
