Hello All!
I've been looking at the Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10 in 31X10.50 for my XJ.
Anyone have any experience with them?
The reviews are very positive.
Here is one:

I just read a positive review in Petersons 4WOR magazine, but keep in mind the mags/sites pad the reviews to keep paying advertisers happy. I have heard there's a good warranty on them though!

My thoughts exactly!
They do look to be quite good, just waiting to hear of some first hand experiences...

Hello ..... I have 4 of these tires (and x-tra spare) mounted on my 2009 4x4 Ford Ranger super cab and have since early June of this year (2010). Not that long, but... I made two long road trips up to and back to the James Bay region of northern Quebec, James Bay Road, asphalt 620 km. x2, North Road 406 km x2 the Trans -Tiaga Road, 745 km. x2, NR and TTR are gravel with varing surfaces from loose stones marble sized with a few bigger ones thrown in (to keep you alert) to hard packed, few pot holes and very little washboard, well maintained, dust when dry/slime when wet. The JBR has some good whoop-de-do's and some good frost heaves that have to be watched for, but are pretty well marked. In the rain, many puddles. I was comfortable at 60 mph. as the road's are pretty straight, gently sweeping curves and almost no traffic! very remote, few services, gas, etc. etc. You do not want any mechanical/tire failures, or run off the road, hit a moose!..... you could be screwed! even w/sat. telephone help could take time and $$. My truck was equipped/loaded for 2 wks of unsupported travel (except for fuel),I did carry 20 reserve gal. on a hitch mounted carrier however and got gas whenever I could) I slept under my Leer topper. These distances were from where my trips started, not counting home to Montreal then north to the JB region which was a lot of interstate and 2 lane roads. Ok....... a little bit about my trip(s) these Hankook tires preformed FLAWLESSLY! on all surfaces, hard, soft, wet /dry did not matter, with sipping, wet... no problem, hard/soft surface at higher speeds. Dry.... again no problem hard pavement/gravel/loose dirt with the tread extending up the sidewall about 1 1/2 in. not a fear of a side wall failure (it was hot when dry and cool when wet) My size tire is 255 R 70 16 run at suggested TP. I can recommend them, so far as I am concerned, I "wrung" em out.... they passed. stay safe, mjmcdowell (I know this reply is almost a yr. later to the question.... hope it helps someone tho, m)

In case this thread has a revival . . .
I think they are outstanding. Counting spares, I had eight of them when I had the AdventureDuo's 80/Horizon setup and I thought they were perfect for the truck. Now, based on that experience, I just took the BFG KM mud terrains off the Tacoma and put new 285/75x16s in their place. So much more secure in the wet weather we'll have for the next eight months, and with the added benefit of a dramatic improvement in ride and noise.
All in all, they get my highest rating.
AMAZING in the snow and ice! Not so great in the mud, but they're not mud tires. They are wearing very well on my dads F150 too.

I have them on my fullsize Dodge Ram 2500 and they're great. My buddy has them on his F150 and likes them as well. Good tire for the money. I hope they stay cheap! Considering all the good reviews it won't be long before they're as expensive as the BFG ATs... which I had and the AT10s are equal or better in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies folks:victory:
I got five for the XJ and we have put about 20,000 miles on them:smiley_drive:.
Great tire to say the least! We have used them in all conditions - even a bit of (very) mild rock crawling too:Wow1:
They are especially good on a wet road - important to us as we are doing allot of highway miles...

Why not just run the tried and true BFG AT KO's???? I have ZERO exp.with the Hakooks so I have NOTHING bad to say about them, but frankly I feel that the BFG AT has alot going for it over nearly every other AT out there. Side-wall ply count, good factory siping (the Han's looks to have good siping too though) and a tread patern that's just a BIT more agressive for when you need it. Obviously this is my opinion and your money so...
Another tire that I'm thin king of going to after my BFG/'s give up the ghost is the Maxxis Bighorn's... More of a mud tire, but they ride amazingly and frankly they've really impressed me for what they are here in the wet NW. Amazing on-road wet traction and in the SNOW they're as good as my BFG's that's for sure (the BFG AT's are a revelation in the snow IMO. they just flat out make most other tires seem like racing slicks. NO JOKE).
The Hankook MT's are another tire that's really peaked my interest too.
I run the hankooks on my business fleet and must say they are excellent. Awesome tire for wear and traction. I do prefer the BFG for my expo truck because it has a much thicker sidewall and I put mostly aired down miles on that truck.
If I wasn't airing down all the time I would prefer the traction ability of the Hankooks, they really grip in the cold.

GREAT TIRE !!
After using BFG ATs, and having a HORRIBLE experience with the goodyear wrangler silent armors I bought the Hankooks.
Discount tire made things right concerning the goodyears and the Hankooks have performed better than any other AT tire I have ever had.

I'm right there with you. The BFG seem to be more thicker in the sidewall compared to the hankooks. The hankooks almost seem to be the same thickness as a passenger tire judging by the ones I picked up. Didn't seem like it would resist well to possible cuts and chunking on the sidewall once aired down. I put them on my brothers tacoma since he pretty much is a pavement pounder.

I've run the AT KOs at well as Hankooks and was more impressed with the Hankooks. Nothing wrong with the BFGs, to be sure. But I think the Hankooks ride a little better, handle a little better and are a little quieter. But the biggest difference, to my mind, is that the tread pattern on the Hankooks is a good bit more aggressive, a bit headed toward a mud terrain. Not that they are great in mud, but they're maybe better than the BFGs.
Just one user's opinion, though, and while I haven't had sidewall problems aired down, others have probably done better tests.

Yeah, I guess it does. Wonder why I remembered my BFGs as having more tread?

I was considering the Hankooks until I realized the 265/75/16's only come in a load range E. That's too stiff for my daily needs.

I have these tires on my 97 Grand cherokee over all performance with the tire I love them the mud has been good along with rock, gravel, and wet roads... This will be my first winter on them I have no doubt they will do well... My only issue with them is that I have had 2 side wall punctures with them all on the same tire.. but over all a great tire
Funny I was just looking at these 2 hrs ago.I'd like to know about snow performance and the weight difference between the hankooks and the BFG at ko's.

They are noticeably better on ice and packed snow than the BFG. The sidewall isn't going to be nearly as durable, especially when aired down. They are a durable tire, but the BFG is more so.

Negative ghost rider, they come in P's as well.

I'm looking at getting these in the P265/75/16. Anybody have the Pseries ones that aren't as heavy, and less ply's than the LT versions? If you had to do it again would you go up to the LT for any reason or go down to the P for any reason?
I want the P's for the lighter weight but on the trail don't want to be having sidewall issues.

I have about 10K on the P265 ('08 FJC).
Excellent road manners.
Quiet, fuel mileage averages 19 combined.
Have run a few local trails, most recent to box canyon. No issues with sidewalls...
I have five in rotation, no noticeable wear at this point. I drive ~2000/month for work. :smiley_drive:

Any more thoughts on these tires?
I have run this tire in 285/75/16 E rating, for about a year on my suburban. Zero issues. Quiet, smooth, good tracking.

Thanks 1leg. How are they in the rain? I have this (possibly irrational) fear of sliding out and wrecking in the rain. I'm not sure where it came from. I have just never felt safe driving in the rain. Of course I'm coming from a lifted TJ on D rated Mud Terrains.

been running these in 265/75 in the P rating, i was skeptical about it at first but i didnt want E and they are priced great even with a full puncture warranty from discount tire so i figured it would be worth a try, havent had to use the warranty yet and ive taken them down some sharp rocky trails. totally happy with these tires.

I put them on the Tacoma specifically to get around the elephant-on-skates feel the mud terrains I had gave in the rain. These are a HUGE improvement. Maybe not Goiodyear Aquatreads, but they give reasonable confidence and have produced no scary moments, which was not true for the KMs. Hankook makes a deal of how they designed the tread for good wet traction, and while I'm no expert, I doubt that any tire with similarly strong off-road credentials could do better.

Thanks a lot for the info. Now I just have to decide if I want to run an E rated tire or not.
No issues in rain or snow. But I drive like my grandpa when the weather gets bad.
6000lbs and growing suburban needed E rated. If you spend alot of time like I do on dirt roads(ranch) E rated tires seem to last just a little longer. Just my .02

One of the main reasons I picked the ATM RF10 was because of the wet performance. My XJ with the RTT, Jerry cans, water system, fridge and a cubic butt load of tools and supplies is heavy! We do a bunch of highway driving. I've been in a few dicey situations in the wet and the Hankooks saved my ***. I'm a believer :smiley_drive:

Are those 7" rims?
How are the 5:29 gears working out with the tire change?

Thanks for the compliment, my friend.
Are those 7" rims?
Yep, the same Outback Performance TX-1 7x16Js that came on the truck from Trail Monkey. That's a half-inch narrower than Hankook recommends. But the rims' offset/backspacing was spot on for what I needed to clear the suspension components in the front and the tires went on, and are staying on, with no trouble, and they look reasonable. Finding wider rims to cram in the space available could have been an expensive experiment. I'm guessing it won't be optimal if I try airing down into single digits, but I can always go back to the 255/85s if that sort of situation is anticipated.
How are the 5:29 gears working out with the tire change?
My personal opinion is that the 5.29s are the key element in making the truck functional on big tires. In fact, Scott Brady showed genius in picking them out even though it would seem at first like they would severely restrict highway cruising. The thing is, though, that the truck weighs something over 6000 pounds and those gears are a key element in making the truck practical to drive, especially with big tires. The big gears make acceleration feel about the same as stock and the cruise is more than relaxed enough for normal speeds. The new wider tires don't weigh much different and aren't much taller than the old KMs, so the tire swap didn't make any power difference I can feel. But on either set of tires, the whole truck would be a lot less satisfying without the magic gears.

I put 265/75/16s (load range E) on my GMC3500 (beater) two weeks ago...Have put about 500 miles on the tires and I am very impressed. Quiet on the highway, great traction on loose dirt (I live about 2 miles off pavement on a graded dirt road), and great traction in the snow...actuallly the best snow traction I have ever had without snowtires/studs/chains.
We got about 18 inches of snow this weekend here in Flagstaff, AZ...I used the truck all weekend...no 4x4 needed...great traction...drove up unplowed FS roads to go snowshoeing and the tires did great...made my mind up since I am also looking to replace the ats on my Tacoma...

Where are the HanKooks made? I was wanting a set of Cooper AT3's but the tire shop has been telling me next week for three weeks and this morning they said 2 weeks. They may never get them in at this rate so I was considering the HanKook RF10's in P235/70/16 for my van.. I could almost buy 5 HanKooks for the price of the Coopers.

I just purchased a set of 5 of these Hankooks for my '04 Grand Cherokee in the 255/65/17 flavor. The Jeep is a DD that will see mild to moderate trails. I've had these on the road for about 300 miles now and I like them a lot. Traction in the rain has been great, they are very quiet, and the tread pattern looks like it will still work well in the dirt and mild rocks. So far I'm very happy with them.
arlon - I was considering the AT3's myself, but tire shop (America's Tire Co.) told me they are a good tire when you can get them. Availability is not the best with them as Cooper apparently waits for a backlog of orders then does a production run so you could be waiting a while. My Hankooks took 3 days to ship and I was told the availability is better.
