I just received an email form Expedition Exchange.
We have purchased Wedco's entire inventory of pre-2009 NATO-style jerrycans. Once these preban jerrycans are gone, there will be no more. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Website said they were out of the water cans....I'm bummed, and pissed at myself for not ordering sooner! Does anyone know if Wedco just gave up, or if there will at least be new versions of these cans? I know there is a CARB compliant can listed but....???

SC-Surfer,
I will start a new thread on water cans so we can compile what is going on in one nice place.

Definitely not trying to steel any thunder away from Expedition Exchange, but I just ordered 4 of the exact same style cans from Deutsche Optik. They are older military surplus, but there is not a thing wrong with any of them and it comes with a stainless steel spout. No rust, only minor scratches if any, seals are all good, etc... I would say a good source at least for a while (they had 1000 of them a few weeks ago when I placed my order) if you can't get them at Expedition Exchange.

I like how they call it a gasoline/diesel can.

Other then the color, is there any difference between a diesel and gas can?

I want to know too. My guess is that there is no difference.

I think I read somewhere that there was a difference between gas and diesel cans. But I can not remember what, maybe it was just in the seals.

Some good info:
Al Dolney's (http://www.rocketcityrockcrawlers.com/memberstuff/al/Jerry%20Can%20Paper%20V1.3.pdf)PDF
The PDF does not speak of the difference between gas and diesel cans in the nato cans only Sceptor

I have 5 NATO cans that I bought for $15 a few years ago from a surplus store in Burbank. They were used but in great shape and have had no problems with them since I bought them. The rubber gasket is the same as the Wedco and any spout Wedco or NATO work on them.
There are several surplus stores that are selling them at very reasonable prices, you just need to look around a bit. I dont see any con to buying used if you replace the rubber gasket.

I used to have a couple of well used German NATO cans and there was no difference from the gas and diesel versions. They came with cool color coded metal tags that would slide into a "window" letting the user know that the can is being used for gas, diesel, or kerosene. I sold those and bought five NOS Italian NATO cans (below) for $100 from a surplus store in Fullerton, CA.

I ordered a lot of four 20-L cans and 2 spouts from Expedition Exchange last week, which should be here on Wednesday :wings:
I told my father-in-law about the ban, and he was able to find an army surplus store in Fort Worth selling surplus military units in perfect condition for $20. I may go pick 2 or 3 of those up this weekend as well.
By the way, that was my first time to order from EE, which I did over the phone, and I have to say, their customer service is excellent. I talked to John for 15 minutes about jerry cans, wheeling, shooting, etc. Seems like a great place to give your business to! Not to mention that they have one of the most information-filled websites I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure I could kill 2 or 3 hours on there without any trouble.

When I tell my wife that I'm going to EE, she knows that I'll be gone for at least four hours.

I just got my lot of 4 from E.E. and am happy to have them.
Since the ban I always look around for Jerry Cans
I walked in to Harbor Freight & Tool today and they just started to carry Jerry Cans.
They look like the Wedco construction but have a different screw cap, this may be the CARB version but I am not sure.
This is the manufactures site, they have been around for a while but it is the first I have heard of them
http://www.midwestcan.com/fuel2.htm
HFT does not list the cans on their web site yet. In the store they are $39.99 but HFT has been sending out 20% coupons lately if you sign up on line and that would bring this down to $32. Not a bad deal if the cap is OK.
If anyone has info on the Midwest cans please pass it along.
Thanks

Midwest Can used to make the old (desirable) Wedco style fuel cans and I have two of them. I'm thinking that i need to pick up a couple more before they all disappear off of the shelf at one of the local farm stores around here.
The new versions of the cans, either Wedco or Midwest Can, will have the screw on spouts as far as I can tell.

If you anyone needs NATO (Wedco style) *ahem* utility cans, it might be worth calling to see if Swiss Army Vehicles still has a special of $50/4; they may also stilll have some in nearly-new condition for slightly more. I bought 4 of the good-condition a few months ago and they arrived in perfectly serviceable, used condition. Because they are "utility" cans (useful for antifreeze or oil, I presume?), they may be able to ship them to CARB-fascist states.
