We picked up an older coleman Colorado pop up last night that had been lifted by another club member quite a while ago. They are a neat rig in that the be slides out over the hitch and there is a built in awning over the rear door. I haven't weighed it but I think its around 750 lbs. as it sits on 235 tires and a longer pintle style hitch.
It will fit wifey, me and the little one perfect!

I will post a pic later tonight!:smiley_drive:

thanks guys. I have been looking for a good cheap small tent trailer like this for sometime. We went and looked at a used cub camperoo but there was just not enough space inside.

It needs a few small things fixed (like getting rid of the Jeep sticker!!! ) but it will serve us well. Its lifted with MASSIVE lift block on top of the axle but it seems to have held up. It gets the gravel road test tonight so we will see if the suspension needs any fixes.

Oh its an 1989 Coleman Colorado in case anyone is looking for something similar.

Earlier this summer while camping near Mt Rainier at Corral Pass, we saw another old pop up. The owner said it was an Apache, one of the earliest popups. Overall shape reminded me more of the Wildernest pickup camper that I once had. Being an early model with few frills, it was quite light weight, which made it ideal for taking to out of the way camp sites. This campground, for example, was a the end of a rough, steep forest service road. The tow vehicle was a Rodeo.

I'll take interior pics this weekend. I took one the other night but its too dark.

The local RV dealer here sells these really cool A-frame units made by chalet. Lightweight and small but too expensive for the amount of times we will use it.

I missed out on a pristine Colorado that someone about an hour away from me had, it was hardly used and in very good condition for its age, only 800.00 too!
Fleetwood makes a similiar unit now called the Neon:

I checked out the Fleetwood Neon a few weeks ago - I really wasn't too impressed. The one I was looking at had a pretty poor build quality and was, in my opinion, very over priced in comparison to something like an Adventure Trailer. It would need an immediate tire, wheel and suspension upgrade too - it sits very low.

Evolution series is probably more robust.

Good purchase, Chet! Bet you'll enjoy it.

235 tires. That's neat. Have the springs been inverted? I like that awning out over the doorway. That's a great feature.

True, and I actually had high hopes for them because they are readily available. But it actually very big and very heavy for what you get. They recommend using a weight distribution hitch with it so there goes any articulation off-road. (with propane bottles and that cargo platform in the front you can hit over 250lbs of tongue weight real easily.

It is also very spartan in comparison with other tent trailers. In Canada they run about 15k brand new where you can get a *much* nicer interior in any $9k trailer.

Some of the larger Evolutions are nice because they carry quads or bikes - great for making a home base with the family in a wilderness area. But as a Expedition style trailer, they just don't work in my opinion.

can you believ we camped for 3 days this weekend and didn't take one picture of the new trailer! :smilies27

It worked really well though. We had about 4 km of really rough gravel road and it seemed alright but needs some better springs I think. We also need a heater the 4 month old needed some serious snuggling the one night to keep warm.

Chet....great score. I was not aware they made small pop ups with that type of design. Looks like it'll serve your needs well.

Cool!

I started seaching for one in my area and actually found one. Can you explain more of how yours was lifted?

Also how do you plan on dealing with the heater issue?

the lift looks bad but I have seen where this rig has been since it was lifted in the early '90's and its still in one piece so I guess it works. It has slapper leaf springs (ride on the frame at one end) and massive lift blocks between the axle and the springs. I would probably go to proper eye-eye leaf springs and drop brackets for the frame attachments.

As for the heat I need to find a mr.buddy (dumb name!) portable heater they use the disposable propane cylinders and have a CO sensor and a tip over sensor. They are approved for inside use in the states but not up here in Canada  Although the tent trailer has enough air infiltration to keep it supplied with fresh air.

We paid $1200 for it but everything seems to cost a bit more on Van island then everywhere else! :luxhello:

Next mod is move the spare to under the rig and add a small triangular shelf to the hitch to store a small propane cylinder and a water jug. Thats for next year though.

Cool... I have used Catalytic heaters inside tents before - work well but they get really, really hot. Don't even think of moving it when it's hot.

What year is the trailer?

Chet..no pics?!

on the subject of the heater, do not know if they can be used in Canada, but the Zodi tent heaters are nice. propane bottle is actually outside of tent, no chance of CO. But you would need a 12v source for the fan...may be an option for ya?
