The Land Rover lover in me says yes, sell your 2003 Tacoma and get a 1987 Defender... But I can't repeat what my wife said...
So... if any of you are interested, this is apparently quite a nice unit. It's fairly remote so it's been for sale for a while. The guy might be ready to deal?

Quenel is located in-between Prince George and Williams Lake British Columbia or about 600 km (8 - 9 hours) north of the US/Canada border. Absolutely beautiful country up there!

Not to sound ingorant, but do you know if that price is in CDN$ or US$? If it's CDN, that's a pretty darn good deal.

Price is in Canadian funds. I believe the Canadian dollar is worth about around 80 - 85 cents USD.

Check that - 1 USD is 0.847 CAD today. So you could probably get it for less than $14k USD in the end.
Yes, it does appear to be a good deal. Under different circumstances I would be on my way out there right now myself...

I guess you can always wait until '08. That's when the rolling 25 year exemption comes into effect for the first year Land Rover 110s (1983). I've got a feeling that the US will have a plethora of Defenders at that point.

You mean you guys can't import a Canadian Land Rover into the US right now? Strange because you can do it with Diesel Land Cruisers...

I don't know what the rules are for bringing in a car from Canada, but I know that coming directly from the UK into the US, the NHTSA has the last say until the vehicle is 25 years old.
