I plan on buying a RTT. Will this rack on top of my Tacoma work, or will I need to add some horizontal top braces? http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u237/lichenboy1/rack.jpg?t=1236196372

That rack will work great with a few modifications. If it were mine I would lose the top rail and vertical braces that attach it to the base. just cut it off with a torch or sawz-all, then clean up the weld areas. After that there seems to be plenty of bars to attach most any RTT,
If you try to put the tent on the rack as is or with bars going across the top rail it will be very high and not that great to wheel/travel with. Or easy to deploy. its already going to be very high up with the extra height of the topper and rack,
You might want to think "as low on the topper as possible".

Here is what my origanal set up looked like. the RTT was as close to the topper as possible made travel easier and getting to the zipper for the cover, as well as deploying it easier.

You need to get the specs for your tent, but most RTT's have a cross bar spacing recommendation to spread the load of the tent and occupants.

I was afraid that it might be too high. Now I have to decide on modifying this one or buying a new style. The camper has no drip-rails, so the rack has to be directly bolted to the top. More money.

Hey modifing the one you have is a really easy and cheap way to go, it appears to be a good rack just stick with what you have and make it work for you,
Ive built three different rack designs for my RTT and they all had the same idea.... low as possible. I would keep it and chop the top rail use the lower section and RTT till the cows come home!
By the way that a really nice looking rig you have.

I'm a big fan of custom mods......But BajaRack is a great rack for not a lot of money....

This rack might be a litte long but would be sweet on your rig! I have been thinking of making this one work on my rig!

Stay turned.....more rack designs are on there way if this one is out of the picture.

Super cool rack. Thats a lot like what I am planning on doing with mine this summer. I have a rack already but it wont work with my softtopper. So I am working on an internal rack that support the RTT above the softtopper.

I've been drooling over that BajaRack. I want some space on the top for firewood, water cans, etc.

For $500 you could by a small mig welder with enough gusto to build what ever you want.
But yes the Baja rack is very nice and I really like the design to hold gear and a RTT. Either way would get the job done. And if you did buy the Baja Rack Im sure you could sell your current rack in no time.
