Do you guys think it would be safe to mount a CO2 tank in the area behind the rear axle of the FJ Cruiser. The gas tank is in front of the rear axle.

If the pressure is similar to nitrous oxide, it is 750psi.
I think it would be a royal pain to turn it on and off before and after a trip, connecting the hose, and removing it for refilling.

Also, sometimes you may not be able to access that location due to deep sand, water, and/or rocks.

If you mount it there, run a line and mount the regulator in a remote but easy to access location. That will get rid of the above issues.

okay, thanks for the help.
Keep in mind that CO2 tanks need to be upright when they operate!

I was not aware of that. So basically, I should just create a mount inside my vehicle.

why not an airtank and on-board compressor?

Curious - why Oasis? As an alternative, have you looked at Viair? Prices are very good and they can be had in 100% duty cycle versions.

Never heard of Viair - thanks for the heads up. I'm not going to buy until I've had the chance to go to the Off-Road Expo in Pomona next month.

If you built an expansion chamber for the CO2 liquid, you wouldn't need to have the CO2 bottle upright for it to operate. This is how a lot of the CO2 powered paintball markers are designed.

FJ - there was a test done by Pete Parks that was in 4WD Owner Magazine a few months ago. Fortunately, he has a similar version on his website:

No problem.. :friday:
As you will see, Oasis does things the fastest, but it is also WAY more expensive then many others.
That Oasis is impressive!
I had no idea it could beat a powertank!
Now if the price was a little less....

Sorry ZooJunike, didn't see your post until now. Currently I don't have compressor in my truck. However I have used the ARB, Viair, Powertank and a bunch of the other el-cheapos. Scott and others have used more of them so I am sure they can provide a stronger, more reliable opinon.
For what it's worth, if I were to install one today it would be the Viair 450C, simply because I like the fact that it is constant duty. I get impatient when I have to wait for things to cool down :shakin:
