Has anybody tried this? I just bought an '09 4door that Im building for Expo/camping use. I would love to be able to relocate the muffler (which is the easy part) and fill that empty space with a water tank.... Any idea's where I could actully find a tank that will fit under there?

:sombrero:Northerntool.com has quite a few different water tanks
Why would you want to put it under the JK ???
Support/protection ????
There are many ways to carry water OUTSIDE, or in a trailer without danger of loss or damage

He probably wants to keep the center of gravity low especially with something like a water tank which can get up to 125lbs for a 15 gallon tank (if I did my math correctly). I know if I had the space that's what I would do.
You could probably search for "RV Water Tank" they come in all shapes and sizes. Give that a shot.

Check out Long Ranger Tanks in Oz. I don't lurk in their jeep section much, but I though I saw one on their site.

There are places that are in business to make you a tank in pretty much any size or shape you require. The fresh water tank in my Sprinter camper is custom made, and I have a quote (expensive) for a weirdly-shaped grey-water tank I might need someday for my fiberglass shell.
One of the more well-known places--though I've never used them and can't vouch for their quality--is All-Rite manufacturing. Their custom tank page is here:

All-Rite is useful to know about because they also do custom doors, windows and other stuff a camper builder might need.
One place to check to see if there's an appropriately-sized stock tank available is Plastic Mart:

Looks like there's about 100 stock tanks; maybe one will work.

Not sure how many gallons it could hold but you could relocate the muffler in the rear and enlarge the storage in the back. Then there are a few companies who make a muffler skid (but I think it bolts to their aftermarket bumper). Anyways here is a link to Woods enlargement kit for the rear compartment and I think there is a write up on Jkowners but I will look later if I can.

Cool, thanks for the info guys. Main reasions I want it is to save space inside. I can easily build a skid plate for it so thats not an issue. It will also help keep a LCG, not that the tank will be filled with water all the time, but when it is.... at least it will be in the right location.
