View Full Version : Any Glock owners out there?

Well picked up my brand spanking new Glock 30 short frame today. Can't wait till I can run some rounds thru her. I already have a 17 that I bought used when I was 21 and have never had a problem with it. From what I've read the 30's are supposed to be one of the most accurate. Hope to find out tomorrow. Just something about a .45 that makes my trigger finger tingle. Anyone out there have a 30 or similar? How well does it shoot and how bad's the bark?

I'm a Glock 30 owner.... Much firepower in a small package.... Function over Beauty!

I have the 27 (.40 S&W) and I really like it. I still can't believe how accurate it is for such a small frame.

I just picked up the Crimson Trace for it. I'm still a proponent that 99% of your practice should be done with the fixed sights, but this is another tool in the bag for when it really counts. I especially like the fact that you can simply turn this model off whenever you want to train without it. And, the activation is intuitive and natural, without having to even think about it.

Got to break in the 30 today. Oh my God I love it. Always liked my 17 but there's no comparison. Definitely glad that I held out for the short frame. I had to wait almost 2 months but it was worth it. At 5'5" the grips still a little bulky but very close to the 17. The gunshop only had 1 box of .45 shells so I took my time and aimed today, no rapid fire, just trying to get the feel of her. Starting the tally, that makes 50 rds today, many, many more to come.

I have a model 27 for my concealed weapon, and a full sized model 22 for not so concealed. Love my Glocks.

I really love that gun. I shoot is often and have even taken some pigs with it.

I also have a 17 and 31/22 multi-caliber.

Glocks are great.

Glad you like the 30.

I have a Glock 26 and love it. I use it as my off-duty weapon. It is very accurate at the 25 yard line.

I've been through a lot of self-defense handguns, up to and including a lovely, and expensive, Novak Combat Commander. I always seem to come back to a Glock for my primary carry weapon, simply because I know it will always work. Also because I can detail strip it in five minutes, and replace any part for a few dollars. (One detail strip of an HK USP was enough for me.)

I have a 31 at the moment, but have owned 17s, 19s, and 32s as well, and a 36 for a short time. Every one functioned flawlessly.

I have several Glocks the 1st and 2nd gen guns fit my hand well. I love my 30 and 21's! The .45 does have a bark but my wife has no problem with it, all in all great pistols!
Good luck with yours!

Good to hear from fellow Glockers. Shot my new 30 sf the other day as posted and loved it. Now I just gotta find more ammo. Seems like the local shops keep selling out as fast as they can get it. Oh well, I will find some this weekend. Don't care where I've gotta go. Happy shooting.

I have a 23/19.

What's a 23/19? It's a 23 (compact .40 S&W) with a Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrel using G19 magazines.

I got the 23 in 2005 intending to use it as my CCW gun. However, I found the recoil with the .40 to be absolutely brutal - much worse than any .45 I've ever fired. The first time I took it to the range I fired maybe 1 or 2 magazines out of it and then put it away because my hand was stinging from the recoil.

I was almost to the point of selling it when I found the Storm Lake barrel over on http://www.topglock.com. $98 and about $5 for S&H and the difference was amazing. Now I can shoot inexpensive 9mm ammo much more easily, and if (for whatever reason) I want to switch back to .40, I can do it in about a minute (only changes are the bbl and magazine.)

I find the Glock to be rock solid and very reliable. Trigger pull is a little spongy/springy but it's consistently spongy and springy so at least it's something I can get used to.

As for ammo: There's been a shortage for quite a while. Hopefully the panic buying will stop and the manufacturers will have the chance to catch up.

That sounds odd that the .40 kicks that much worse. Although looking at the ballistics it makes sense. Wonder what the 29 or 33 feels like?

But I am a Lefty and my trigger finger kept hitting the slide lock and locking it open. I did not find the recoil that bad.

I switched to a Ruger SP 101 and it worked much better for me. I took a hit in terms of rounds on board, but it is 100% reliable and that is more important to me.

You lefties have it rough. My Dad's left handed, you should see him shoot a flintlock. I don't know how he does it. The flashpan goes off right in his face. I have a hard enough time not flinching without having to deal with that. My buddy has a Ruger. I think its a 9mm, but not sure. I know he's real happy with it. I've got a Ruger 7mm rifle that I use for cross country shooting and never had a problem with it.

I switched to a Glock 19 from an IMI Jericho and never looked back. The 19 does everything I could want in a combat auto. I Concealed Carry it every day when I am not going to/from work (no POWs on post).

It now has 3300 rounds on it, 6 different brands of ammo- zero malfunctions. This is a good record.

I have mine set up with XS Big Dot (tritium front) sights, carry with a Comp Tac CTAC Kydex IWB holster and Kydex stiffened 1 1/2" leather belt. Carry ammo is Speer Gold Dot +P or Remington Golden Saber.

Martinjmpr- I find .40 to be considerably snappier than 9 or .45, but not punishing. Were you shooting +P

Glocks received a bad rap from the .40 cal models (mostly 22 and 23). They have historically been less reliable than 9 and .45, and are far more prone to the legendary Kaboom. .40 generates higher chamber pressures. Combine this with Glock's poorer case head support (have to trade something for reliability) and imperfect/low quality brass/out of spec reload, and you may see a case head failure, blowing the mag out of the weapon and splitting the frame.

Just bought a used O.D. green 17:wings:. It is almost new, original owner bought it new 11/08 and only has 200 rds. thru it. I haven't got out to shoot it yet as I'm having trouble finding any good 9mm ammo for target shooting. I've shot some at ranges prior to buying this and they seem to do well. Didn't get this exact one, just pics to view it.

Several - my wife and I normally carry G30SF's with G21 mags as backup. We occasionally carry G21's.

For the woods, I will normally carry a large-frame Smith in .44 mag, and my wife carries either a Smith 625 4" or a Colt SAA in .45LC. If we're not carrying rifles, that is.

I used to own several, (G21, G26, G33, G22).. I also carried a G31 whilst patrolling as a State Cop. I have since switched over to Springfield XD's.. Glocks are great, but these Springfield's are better IMHO. They just feel tigher and as far as my hand is concerned feel more natural in it. They are worth a look.

Got a 17 & 22.
The 22 broke the rear slide tabs off, but glock replaced the entire frame no charge, so I'm not complaining, especially since I got it used.
Got lone wolf trigger components and crimson trace lasers on both too.

I weekly compete in pin shoots (bowling pin shoots) and for ultimate accuracy, the Kimbers just flat out rule! All the fastest times are with the awesome 1911's. With lasers, we're getting down to almost 2 second flat times on a good 5(shots) for 5(pins). That is timed from the horn to the last pin hitting the floor. The table must be cleared with 8 shots and anything still on the table is 5 seconds penalty onto your time.
Many try all the others (glock, XD, Sig, etc, etc) but overwhelmingly they seem to be more accurate, mostly IMHO due to the excellent short-pull triggers.
I occasionally use the glock 22, CZ in .40 or the kimber ultra-carry, but the full size is the fastest. Ultra-carry at least 1+ second slower due to muzzle recoil/re-acquisition time.

My ultra-carry is my carry gun when concealment allows, or something smaller
when concealment is a problem.

Like the glocks, but when all-out accuracy is the goal, the 1911's for me are there.

I EDC a 19 and love it. The only problem I've ever had was a box of GARBAGE lead nose ammo that FTF'd or FTE'd every 3rd round or so. It actaully freaked me out when the first one FTF'd because after about 6 or 7K rounds through this gun I had never had this happen. Then every 3 or 4 it wouldn't go bang. I stripped and cleaned on site and still had problems. Unloaded that garbage and reloaded some Fedral Premiums I had and back to good old reliable. The thing I've always liked about this gun is that no matter what I fed it I never had a problem, until that last batch of bulk garbage.

You know Glocks don't like lead nose ammo right?
Apparently the lead builds up in the rifling or something like that.

FMJ is the only way to go..and the one time I sent my G27 back to glock , they asked me if I ever used reloads or lead nose ammo, they said it voids the warranty- Who knew?:ar15:

Easiest way to avoid those problems is use an aftermarket barrel. I'm using a Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrel in my G23, works great and digests just about anything. Cost was right around $100.

Pretty nice little gun that shoots suprisingly well for the size it is.
As previously stated, the extended mags are a must (and pricey too, $35) for my big hands. Gotta get some extensions for a couple of the standard mags.
Carries quite well on a high-hip holster with sweatshirt.

Will be getting the crimson trace lg436 laserguard for it when funds are available, along with their holster.

Have had Glocks since the 90's. There is no other weapon that I would carry. There easy to work on, so gunsmiths don't take your money for repairs. If you think you have an problem, you can join GSSF and have a Glock gunsmith inspect and upgrade the Glock for free. You just can go wrong with owning a Glock. :coffeedrink::D

It's funny. At the SHOT show this year, the Glock booth was not only huge, but it was crowded as hell. More so than any other brand. It is simply a testiment to the gun.

Wait till you see the 4th generation guns. The 4th Gen G17 and G22 are already out. 4th Gen G19 and G23 will be out this summer. Simply awesome.

I think they will continue to offer the RTF texture but it was not very popular. Some really liked it, but most complained it was too rough. The Glock rep said it was hell on holsters. The new texture should appeal to the masses.

I used to carry a 1911...I have a safe full of them right now, Colts, Kimbers, Les Baer, Springfield... Most of them have been either built, or tuned, by the very best gunsmiths in the business...people with reps that go back 40 or more years now.

Not a single one of them is as reliable as any of my Glocks, out of the box. For the most part the various guns have magazines they work well with, and magazines they don't work with at all (and I'm talking expensive, aftermarket mags, not gunshow "GI Surplus" made in China mags)..

They all have factory ammo they won't feed at all. They all have broken parts at one point or another.

With my Glocks, they work out of the box - period. I have replaced springs on them after lots of shooting (6-8K rounds), but I've never had a broken gun: One that wouldn't fire. I can take my similar models (G21, G30) apart, mix up the parts and reassemble them, and they still work just like new.

The only thing I do to them out of the box is add night sights (if they don't already have them). Other than that, they get the occasional cleaning (once or twice a year, for the ones that we shoot a lot), and maybe a boresnake down the breach when we're done practicing...thats it. I have over 22,000 rounds through my first G22 (.40S&W) and I'm still on the original barrel (and it still shoots well). My 1911's would shoot out the barrel (factory) in 4-5K rounds, and shoot out Bar-Sto in 8k at the most. And need most of the springs replaced at 3000 rounds. Glock factory mags? As far as I can tell, they don't wear out. They still function as new, including the one that came with my first G22.

If John Moses Browning (designer of the 1911, and most decent firearms in the world) were alive today, he'd be building Glocks or something very much like them (only better - the only thing I don't like about Glocks is the grips are a bit thick, and the angle is a bit wrong, the 1911 was far better).

Right now I've got one of my G21's in the smith, getting an Trijicon RMR added...they may be the future of combat pistol sites.

I've had several over the years since the first gen and sold all of them except my latest G19. I have a love/hate relationship with them- I admire the gun for it's simplicity and it's reliability, but I hate the way it looks and feels, especially the way it points. The grip angle is just wrong; it's doesn't point naturally like the 1911. That said, I carry it a lot because I do trust it. In a pistol I prefer a 1911, Sig or P35 though.

maXTERRA

They're awesome guns for function/reliability as I've said before, but my best shooters for accuracy are still my 1911's, HANDS DOWN (the 1911's ALWAYS win the weekly pin-shoots, like this around 2.6 sec, 5 pins time to the floor)

I can shoot a glock pretty fair, but I have to think about the trigger squeeze every shot, unlike the kimber.

Can't carry the ultra carry kimber as easy as I can carry the g27 on my hip right now:ar15:

I have trijicon sights on virtually all my handguns, and most rifles - but the RMR is more than just a night sight. I tried a handgun so equipped at a shooting class I attended last year, and found them to be quite good for rapid sight alignment - day or night.

They covered a lot about trijicons on Gun-Talk yesterday on the radio :-)

I was just commenting in how bright my TFO's are compared to the others. When I open my gunvault, the kimber U-C with tfo's are easily more than twice as bright as the g22 with factory night sights.
Out in the light, the fiberoptic tube really lights up too. A good thing for aging eyes.

I may try a set on a G30, then...

Iv'e been debating on which sites to go with for my G30SF. I've had that pistol almost a year now and it still makes me grin every time I get it out. I'm not sure how many rounds I've run through my 17 and 30 but have yet to have a failure. Glock all the way.

[QUOTE=Jonathan Hanson;405540]I've been through a lot of self-defense handguns, I always seem to come back to a Glock for my primary carry weapon, simply because I know it will always work. Also because I can detail strip it in five minutes, and replace any part for a few dollars/QUOTE]

I'd agree with Jonathan that there are few guns out there that are as easy to maintain and as reliable to use

I carry a Glock 19C that is ported and it's amazing at how simple it is to double tap bullseye's all day long. Every person who has shot this gun goes out and buys one afterwards....it's that smooth

I posted this in the Hlep Me Pick A Gun Thread, but I thought it should go here too

For anyone thinking about a gun, read this ultimate Torture Test (http://www.theprepared.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=90) this guy did on his Glock

It's amazing the stuff and time this guy spent trying to ruin this gun. Everything from shooting it with another gun, burying it in a bucket with everything and anything he could think of and dropping it from a plane...LOL

It's a very funny read and makes me not feel so bad about not cleaning my Glock after my range time
