Finally pulled the trigger and got a 4runner. I have been looking for weeks now with no luck. I did find one down in Reno and was almost about to get my one way ticket when I found this little gem not to far from me. A sale on the Tacoma as a complete rig fell threw so I decided to just keep as much as I could and throw it on the 4runner. In the next week or two I should have everything swapped over and start tracking down some new parts like tires and rear bumper, let the new build begin:coffeedrink:

What's wrong with running boards:bike_rider: It will get a set of sliders and I'm keeping the front Badland Bumper and winch off of the Tacoma, just have to do alittle fab work to make it fit.

Good choice. I'm running the Bilstens in the rear with the Performance Products springs and could not be happier with them or their flex!

You got it. I'm going to rob the stockers from the runner and maybe just grab some spacers. Already stole the dual battery, electric fan, short shift, and much more.

Long day. I got the electric fan almost done, dual batteries in, intake put together, head light bulbs swapped over, short shift done, and tomorrow I go pick up the new spark plugs and wires from Toyota. The guy told me that he had all the maintenance done by his mechanic but found out how wrong he was:mad: The plugs look original with very little to no electrode left I'm guessing that is why it was studdering when ever I got on it. Oh well, so goes the used vehicle story:cow:
Also looks like a friend of my wife's is going to buy the Tacoma so that takes the pressure off of getting things swaped over so fast.
Engine bay was horrible, got it all pressure washed out and started tearing into it.

I didn't realize it was Supercharged...
...if it was hesitating whenever you stepped on it, that could be a number of problems. I would suggest putting on a URD 7th Injector kit ASAP.

Another long day in Toyota land. Sold the Tacoma to one of my wifes friends today, we came up with a price that worked for both of us so she could keep it pretty much as-is and I could afford to build up the 4runner. She is really excited about it, she is selling her tricked out VW Jetta and coming back over to the dark side with the rest of us:elkgrin: I have a few more things to steal from it before I hand over the keys. I got the truck running today with new plugs and wires and it runs awsome, but I can definetly feel the lack of fuel so I'm probably going to order up the 7th injector kit from URD. I ordered up the 1" BL from RogerBrown, ordered up my ICON's, and went down to Badlands and next week it goes in for a new front bumper. Took the roof rack off and painted it same with the spoiler on the lift gate, removed the running boards too. Now the fun part of ordering parts, the UPS guy will know my address real good:smiley_drive:

This makes me miss my old supercharged 98 4Runner. Just so you know, there is a write up of replacing the oil in the cone of the supercharger. Should be done about 100k or so. I think the write up is on Yotatech.
And was also curious to know why the change from Taco to 4Runner?

That's what I remember also. I had the 2nd Gen S/C and it was pretty easy doing it on that model.
Check out Gadget's (http://www.gadgetonline.com/4Run.htm) site for a bunch of info on the your model of supercharger.

No, she is all about the ICON's:) Love the Tacoma, it's been an awsome rig just looking down the road is all. We have a dog now and doing alot of camping and there is just not enough room in there for us. I have been eyeing 4runner's for awhile now, plus will be nice having extra seats for passengers. When I do the 7th injector I will probably do the cone oil at the same time. It goes in next week for the front BadlandBumper and Jeff and I are going to try and design a rear tube bumper with swingout that has plate welded on the back side so you don't see the runner panels. I will try and get some pics up tonight of what it will kind of look like.

Yeah buddy:victory: Getting all of the little things out of the way. The tires were out of balance so I also had them flip the black walls out since I will be on these for awhile while I get everything else done. Trying to find a thread on disconecting the DRL's before they kill the SilverStar's.
OldSven

Damn, so apparently the dissconect for the DRL's is the little box by the battery, oh yeah the little box that I moved to a nitch under the battery so I could fit the duels in there:mixed-smiley-030:
So lets here some opinions, I'm either going with (285 BFG KM2's) (285 BFG AT's) or (255 BFG KM2's)?

So I'm browsing rear suspension setup's out there and looks like the two options for my rig would be some OME 892 Coils and some OME N86 shocks from wheelers, or the 1.2 setup from Sonoran Steel. Any 4runner guys have any thoughts or opinions on these setups? I will be running a swingout, fridge, drawer system, and other goodies so weight is a factor. Wheelers said that the OME's would work great for this but I have heard that the LC coils work well with weight but give you almost 4" of lift back there which is alittle to high.

I put the SS 1.2 lift on my 4runner earlier this year and have been very happy with it. With any significant lift on the rear 5 link suspension the axle starts shifting to the side and in my own opinion it is important to correct for this by lengthening the trackbar. The SS adjustable trackbar is a nice piece, and gives me peace of mind (there's some homonyms for ya).
My 4runner is still being built and at this point I do not have enough weight in the rear which results in a slightly bouncy ride an a very tall ride height. When loaded down for camping it rides smoothly. Once I get my rock sliders and storage setup in place it should be fine even without load. It sounds like you will have more than enough weight in the back to put the proper load on the rear springs.
Even with weight in the rear the LC coils are pretty tall. Here's a picture of my truck unloaded, please note that this is without my sliders or sleeping platform so this is "as tall as it gets".

I say 285 KM2's
i'll be picking up a set of 235/85 KM2's next week on 07 TRD tacoma rims. As far as the rear, i'm running the 890 coils and N86C shocks. They sagged out pretty quickly even with trim packers ontop and i'm just running a homemade storage box and recovery gear most of the time. I'd do 891 or 892s with an OME shock personally, i'll be upgrading eventually LC springs are an OK option, they are just really long springs.
OldSven

Found a set of LC coils so I'm going to give them a shot first just because they are so cheap. Also ordered up my URD 7th kit with the o2 calibrator since mine is a federal emissions rig. I looked at pulleyboys.com and they have a pulley for half the price of URD so I'm going to probably snag that up to. Removed that DRL modual without having to take apart the dual batteries that was nice. Also removed the swaybars, I feel more comfortable with the body roll:smiley_drive:

Sven,
Welcome to the 4runner family, you are going to love your rig. Just a quick endorsement of the SS 1.2 lift. It is a great lift. I chose this lift because the kind of wheeling here in KS is quited different than that of CA...I got mine installed a couple of months ago, and the ride is definitely worth it! What I really liked about the kit was that it was all factory bolt on stuff optimized to your specific 4runner year. As you know, these vehicles had slight nuances from year to year, and Steve has build these kits to accomodate for that.
Yeah, you could piece things together yourself, however, I would recommend that you check out Sonoran Steel's webpage, and read the FAQ section before you make the initial committment to do this setup 'Ala carte'. Lots of owners have attempted to do it this way, and they are constantly having to mess with their set up. I prefer the 'do it right the first time' approach, and based upon the meticulous build of your Taco, I would say this is your motto as well...:coffee:
Initially, there was a rake to my rig that was quite pronounced. However, with the addition of my cabinet/drawer system, it is not as exaggerated as it used to be. The rear will eventually level out with time...
Here is a photo of my rig immediately after the install: the rake is not as pronounced as this now...

Thanks for the info. I might have a set of LC coils coming my way but I might just by rest of the kit from Steve. One thing I can't stand is a raked look but I know all of the weight is in the near future so that's why I went with the LC's. I am thow trying to keep this rig somewhat on the light side, at one point I had the Tacoma up to about 5k lbs and it was just a tank. Mileage drops, it's slower (but this go around I have the little whistle under the hood to help with that). Next week will be a busy week as most of my parts are showing up, and the bumper gets built.

I'm in the same boat but no where near as prepared as you.
I've got a 4th gen 4Runner that is also my DD. I do travel a good bit for work so I'm debating building my 4Runner or just getting something older like a 60 or 80 and building that as my fun truck.
I got 24 mpg on my last interstate road trip-that's hard to pass up.

The nice thing is that I have a daily driver, and the wife has her Honda so this will just sit in the carport like the Tacoma did. Except this go around this one is paid off so that will feel better when I break something:bike_rider:
The ICON's showed up today, scared me for a minute because the upper mount was different than the set on the Tacoma so I called them and they said that it was a new revision, same coilover.

I had the same one on the Tacoma, it is a night and day difference of no fender rubbing. I've beat the pinch weld and trimmed everything in there and still at full flex it will hit on something. This way you are clear and it is only a one inch so the only you have to do is add a steering spacer and your done.

I got them from Trail-Gear. I had a set on the Tacoma way back when I had my 255's. They are 1.25" spacers. I know those HD's are heavy duty that's for sure, they are all painted up and waiting for the rig to get back tomorrow. I also got my muffler today, and thanks to Wil over at SierraExpeditions I picked up my snorkel today too:snorkel:

The snorkel was always cheap insurance for me up here in the NW, but in the summer the roads to the trails get real dusty so it helps with keeping that junk out of the filter.

I'm beat:( Got the exhaust done first thing this morning. Got home and tour out the rear suspension with the help of Gabe. Had to lengthen the track bar by sleeving it, but miss measured and had to re-do it to make it shorter. The LC coils give you about 4-5" in the rear without any weight back there. Got all of the stainless brake lines in along with the ICON's, Timbrens, diff drop kit, and wheel spacers. Took it up for a night run up at the trail and it did really good (minus the street tires aired up, and missing a rear locker). I will have to say that this suspension setup so far is the ticket. The front obviously goes without sayin but the used LC coils and OME N86 shocks work great together. I can't wait to get some weight back there to bring it down in height and get some tires on this thing and it's looking good.

Same setup as the truck up front, about 3". The front end just needs an alignment which will bring it down a touch. On the tacoma I just cranked up the ICON's to the point right before the fins on the CV's touched and never had any issues nor ever broke one. It does look super tall with those 265's on there:Wow1:

I think it's the extra 1" of BL that makes it look a little crazy. Once the tires go on I think it'll look great! Upper ball joint doesn't look all that happy though..

It's all out of whack with out an alignment and tires, and some much needed weight:) I'd like to keep the stock rims but still deciding on tire size. The URD kit should ship out in a week or so, Gadget said they were updating the computers with some more goodies so once they get them I will get it.

Had to walk away from the runner last night, my fab skills just weren't working out, but today was a good day. I got the end caps built for the bumper to beef it up a bit, cranked the coiloves down for now until I get some weight up there and got the sliders welded on. I took the spare 33x10.5 off of the Tacoma and threw it on for kicks and let's just say I'm going back to some black steelies!!! Now the question is do I go with the 33x10.5's and match the new KM2's that are about to go on the trailer, or go with 255's?

I hear ya. the only reason I would go that route over the 33's is that I could run some Tundra brakes with the 16" wheels.

The 15" rims would probably rub the brake tundra calipers if he ran the 33's.
255's on a 16 inch rim would work.
Correct me if I am wrong. :)

Sorry I have the 16" option already (take it for granted) with the larger calipers already. I have thought about the bigger brake kit and thought and though but it hasn't happened yet. They are wider than my rotors and the caliper is a hair larger.

Your trucks looking good mate.....another build up Ill be following.....
Just a question, with the 3" suspension and 1" bodylift are you at all concerned that 255/85x16's might look too skinny on a vehicle siting at 4" lift?
Just wondering, because Im gonna bodylift my 07 hilux soon and Ill be using your vehicle as a reference to see what height I should bodylift it above the
3" suspension on it at the moment.
Me mate wants to go 2" above the 3" I already got but Im thinking more 1 - 1.5" tops...... will still be using my 285's for most of next year anyway even with the lift.
Or do you think the fact that you are spacing your wheel out further, giving it an increased track width will make it look more balanced with the 255's and that lift?
thanks mate.:coffeedrink:

I only did the 1" BL on the Tacoma due to rubbing with my tires. That 1" makes all the difference in the world. The runner is sitting really high right now just because I don't have any weight on it. the front still needs a winch, and budbuilt skid plate. The rear needs a bumper with swingout, fridge and drawer system so all said and done it will be leveled out around 3". The 255's are pretty skinny, I had them before and then went to a 33x12.5 but that's just alot of rubber to move especially for expo style wheeling. The 33x10.5 is about 1/2-3/4" wider than the 255 once mounted up, plus the wheels are cheaper too:)

Well with prices of tires:Wow1: I'm now looking at just painting the runner rims and getting some 255 Maxxis. 15" steelies and 5 33x10.5 KM2's come out to about $1400. If I go with the 255's and keep my wheels I'm at like $750ish and I can use the other cash towards some other stuff. If you guys have any pics of some painted wheels would be great, I have seen a few on here that are graphite or charcoal that look really clean. It won't match the trailer but I might beable to live with that:)

Well I'm going to order up the 255 Maxxis on Monday. I also got some charcoal metalic paint today for the wheels, still deciding if I'm going to paint them. I think it would add a nice touch to the rig. I also did the "turn signal mod" today. Got some 1157 amber bulbs and sockets and fit them into the markers so I have big bright bulbs but also turn signals.

Got the back setup with the co2 bottle, rubbermaid with tools etc. and also the fridge. I decided to go the rubbermaid route for now because the drawer system is kind of a permanant, where as this has all of my stuff and I can take both out really quick if I need to load the back. I did the "power outlet" mod so I have constant 12v out back and also the two up front. This will be awsome having the fridge in the runner, so much more accesable than the trailer. Also got all my measurements so I can pick up the steel tomorrow for the bumper build:coffeedrink:

Any chance you can run a tape measure when you get these Bighorns over the tyre once aired up and off the vehicle?
I'd just like to compare what the "actual" diamter is to the "stated" diamter on the website.
Why I ask this is because on TTORA forum, a couple of blokes that have bought 255/85x16 KM2's say they are closer to 33.6/33.7 than 33.3 as stated on the BFG website.
Hope Im not asking too much?

Got to work on the rear bumper today. Picked up a chunk 4x4 tube, two pieces of 8x2 rectangle tube, and some diamond plate. Trying to mix a few different designs that I have seen on some 3rd gen's, but the back of the runner is such a pain to design around. I'm going to nip the ends of and nip the bottom up to meet up with the side tube then cap it off to really clean it up. I also set the swingout on there to figure out how far back the tube had to be to clear the gate. I'm going to cut the swingout down and move it to the pass side and flip the hi-lift mount to the driver side. More work ahead:mixed-smiley-030:

Yeah, I'm going to nip them at something like a 45, and then where the 4x4 is lower than the sides I will angle it up for a nice touch:)
Lookin good, the build looks much simpler when big chunks are used and still looks like it will turn out sweet. Do you know anywhere that sells prefabed swing out bases? i.e. spindle and latch mounted to a base cross tube, ready to weld in? I'm sure some jeeper must produce them.

I can tell you right now that my 255/85/16 Bighorns mounted on 16x7 steel rims with about 6k miles on them measure about 33.1. And my 255/85/16 KM2's measured 33.2 when mounted on my Tacoma brand new. I think the 33.7 is a bit of wishful thinking (or bad measuring).

"Abit" is right:Wow1: It weights more than the front without the swingout. But with those FJ80 coils the bumper, swinout, hi-lift, and tire will set it really close to level which is what I wanted. I will try and get a weight of it but I'm scared to see what it is...

Well now that everything is falling into place parts wise, a rear locker is on that same list but don't know what to get:coffee: I loved the elocker in the Tacoma but one thing I didn't like was on road when I needed to get out in traffic in the rain I was the "one wheel wonder". I have been searching around and an ARB would be great but $$$ is a factor. I could do another elocker and do the few mods to make it fit my housing. An LSD would be good all around but offroad don't work as well as a locker. I'm actually leaning towards a Detroit since Aussie doesn't make one for mine just yet and they are very durable. On road they have their issues with turning and shiffting gears my old Toy had a spool in the back and I DD drove that one with no problem accept for axle seals going out alot. Man i agree...had mine over 5 yrs...never a problem. fact is the drain plug fell out (thanks oil change dude) did a water crossing before the guy behind me noticed_no one saw oil on the trail so who knows when it fell out. How's the aussie up front? Hard to turn when in 4wheeldrive? You did the manuel hub swap though didn't you?
aussie is just like a locker to turn when its in the front usually. then it will let go for a sec, had one in my 85.

Yes I did the manual hub swap, and the Aussie up front is only hard to turn sometimes but it rocks just make sure center diff is locked (if equipped) and your ABS/Vtrac bypass is engaged and this will not be you.
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e31/xcmountain/Trips-Adventures/SE4RJ6-Chocco-2009/P5221709.jpg
Back to the hub swap, I didn't do it on the cheap with junkyard parts, I did mine all new less the hubs. I would reccomend if anyone is considering this just spend the difference and get a ARB up front. Unless your getting the parts for free or down right cheap. Or you don't mind not being able to keep your cv's totally dissengaged. But the Aussie rocks! I can climb with ease and less damage to the trail with the added traction.

WOW! Your 4Runner is coming along very nicely!
Did you keep the power antennae when you installed the snorkel?
No, I tried but the NW with trees and branches don't get along with pwr antenna's. Plus the pwr antenna assy is big and the rubber tube that 90's off the snorkel doesn't fit so well with it there. I ordered up the manual one from a 4runner and a black antenna whip from a Tacoma along with the intake tube from a Tacoma so I can finish the snorkel.
So much anger here! I'm fearing for my life, more so I'm fearing that someone will kidnap me and make me build heavy bumpers for them:violent-smiley-031:

Well so much for waiting, my URD kit showed up this morning so obviously I could go on vaction knowing that it was just sitting at home:) So I got it all installed, only took about 3.5-4hrs to do the whole thing. Dropping the tank for the new pump was a real pain. The 7th injector hook up took about 15min, then the computer was soso. I called Gadget at URD a few times during the install to double check stuff and also after the first test drive it was still not 100%. He told me to swap in a new TPS sensor which helped a lot. I still have the 2.2 pulley, belt, and new cooler plugs to install but if any of you S/C guys have any input on how to tell if the computer and everything is working to it's fullest? It has one of their new computers that the o2 calibrator is built into the unit also.

You're not going to achieve the full potential until you have the IK-22's the 2.2" Pulley, and a solid tune.
The tuning is where it's at. The map that comes preloaded in the computer is a good, but conservative "cookie-cutter" map. Every single vehicle is going to be a little different. Once you get your tune down, you'll be good to go. If you haven't installed the plugs and pulley yet, you should wait to do your tuning runs. Even if you tuned it now, you'd have to tune it all over again after those additions.

I don't know if you're familiar with the tuning process, or not.
This was the biggest resource for me to understand tuning. I'm not sure what software is used for the new URD 7th kit that you got. If it's still the R4 software, then this guide will still help.
http://www.gadgetonline.com/U-Tune.pdf
Tuning is a little difficult to grasp until you just get out there and do it.

So the software that comes with the kit, you slap that in the laptop and tune it in? Do I need my gauges to do this or does the computer do it?

So the software that comes with the kit, you slap that in the laptop and tune it in? Do I need my gauges to do this or does the computer do it?
To tune you need:
a laptop (with software)
Wideband o2 sensor with display
A scan tool (I use the Auto X-Ray EZ-Scan4000 (http://www.autoxray.com/product_detail.php?pid=97) ) - URD sells a scanner that you connect to your OBD2, and connect it to your laptop, so you have 1 less screen to look at.
preferably a designated driver that has balls!
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____________________________________________
Getting started:
Basiclally you install the software on your laptop. Connect the laptop to the FTC.
Download the fuel map onto your laptop, and save it. That way if you screw up, you can start over with your baseline map.
Create a new map that's a duplicate of the baseline (this will be the one you adjust).
Hook up your scan tool, make sure your wideband o2 is functioning properly.
1 person can tune alone, but this is not advised.
Preferably get someone to drive while you watch the displays.
Tuning your truck:
Start the truck.
Turn on all your toys.
Start driving.
Find a cop-free stretch of road that you're familiar with.
FLOOR IT!!!!!!!!! Drive as fast as you can for as long as you can!
Watch your fuel map, and listen/feel for any hesitations, or pings or rough spots.
When you feel a ping, or whatever be sure to note which field(s) the truck was in when the ping occurred.
Pull over.
Adjust the effected fields.
Turn engine off - turn key to "ON"
Download the changes to the computer.
Restart truck.
Repeat.
Once you get all pings and rough spots ironed out then you can start tuning for performance. When at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) I like to have my AFR's at 11.8. You have to walk a fine line. 11.8 is where I think my truck performs the best at WOT. Gadget recommends staying around 12.0. If you go too rich you lose performance. If you go too lean, you damage your engine. Have fun!

Hmmm. No latch on jeeptubes.com. :( Complete swing-arm kit *minus* the latch. How odd. So I already used 4x4labs' spindle and latch for my main tire carrier swing-out, and am now wanting to make 2nd swingout on the other side that is smaller and will possibly have less force acting on it so i'm thinking of going a lil cheaper on the latch and spindle this time...Anyway...

I have them in my basement, they measure in at 33 3/8'' in height, unmounted. Some say they measure 33.5'' but thats probably rounding off.
I'm mounting them on the spare style steelies, on my 04 tacoma 3.4L.
I think i'll have more than enough power without a super charger, although I plan on regearing, to maintain the low range and drop the rpm's. I'll run them for a while with the stock gearing, until my money tree grows again.:coffeedrink:

can you measure the exact tread width? trying to decide between them and 285's for an 8 inch wide wheel

Answer: New, 255/85R16 Maxxis Bighorn, mounted on a 16x7.5" Toyota TRD wheel, tread width (tread face) is 7 13/16"
I was going to simply say 8-inches which is how I usually refer to them. Of course it depends on your 'eye' and how you hold the tape (3/16" isn't much), but you wanted exact :ylsmoke:
Most 285/75R16 will measure 9" to 9.2" for tread width. I would strongly suggest a 255/85 over a 285/75. 1 to 1.4” difference Per Tire is a big difference. I know that I'm very biased toward narrower tires, and I'm currently trying to like/accept 285s as an optional size for my 4Runner... but the performance most will get from a 255/85 is simply better.
Not to clutter OldSven's thread with tire talk... back On Topic: Look at what OldSven chose for his 4Runner, the very good yet affordable Maxxis Bighorn in LT255/85R16D :sombrero:

I could probably stuff a 35" tire in there maybe with some more triming, but if I get to that point I'm going to SAS it for sure. Kind of funny but these 255' Maxxis on stock rims look wider than my 33x10.5's on an 8" wheel on the Tacoma.

Got the supercharger and 7th injector setup all dialed in with the new valve and runs awsome now.
Did run into a problem with the swingout though. On the Tacoma when you open the swingout you drop the tailgate down and rest the swingout against it while doing what ever. Now with the runner having a liftgate once you open the swingout if you are parked the wrong way you have to mess with it swinging shut or hitting it with the lift gate if it isn't open all the way. So I picked up a latch today and found a shock tab lying around that worked great now just pull the latch to secure it in place no matter what angle you park at...

Mine has ABS so it is somewhat prewired for the e-locker as in all I had to do was plug in the switch and run a 18/7 wire from the locker to the control ECU. Also did the mod so I have it in 2wd also. It is great to be back, makes for a long day of wheeling without that added traction when you need it.

Sven this 4Runner ... It's amazing!!! I LOVED your old Truck and was sad to see you have to sell it, but man...I'm loving how quickly this truck's coming together!!! The BadLands Bumper is making me definately want one now. And I love the factory roll bar in my 1st Gen for the exact same thing. I've always thought it was cool how guy's figured out how to mod them into the back of newer trucks. Another nice thing I like them for is hanging a lamp off of so when we sleep in the back of the truck I always have lgiht. The head-lamps gp on the headrests of the front seats and our Gerber battery powered "Lantern" (thankfully mine's not Camo)

hangs right on the bar (with a simple little loop of thin accessory cord) and makes getting up in the middle of the night easier ;) Seeing your build reminds me that as soon as I'm good enough to climb around in the back of the truck and lift things, I need to re-organize the stuff/get my Hi-Lift mounted back there ala Roger Brown/4Crawler:
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/HiLiftMount.shtml

Like I said before I started this rambling post, the trucks coming along very nicely and, to me, at lightning pace :D . I love those 3rd Gen's and I 'm extra jealous that you've got a 3.4 w/the 5spd... Great combo, great 4Runner mate.
Edit Question: Is it just the pic or is the back left passenger seat rooted??? It looks bent like it's been pulled back and had the frame bent. Or is it just the pic/optical illussion??? If it IS bent this certainly a great time to yank the 4th seat and install the fridge there.

I see what you mean, but yeah it is just the angle of the picture. I hate having stuff clanking around or haveing to stuff things behind other things to keep them in place. The roll bar is nice because it keeps the same open space down the middle for hauling stuff but utalizes all that empty room by the windows.
Next deal will be some hub-centric spacers to replace the ones I just sold. Then build a new beefier swingout, and off to the front for a winch and lighting. Stay tuned:coffee:

Sorry for the Hijack but I use 2 of these lights in my OZtent one in the tent one in the front porch. They are great and last a lot of nights on the batteries! We had a rare power outage the other night for about 4 hours. Went into the garage poped out the Brunton's and we sat around playing cards. Good lights.

Just got my early Christmas present from the wife, a SmittyBilt XRC 10k Comp winch. Got it today and got it installed. Fit like a champ and didn't even have to cut the grill for mounting anything. Found out from Smitty that thier winches are built by T-max so besides a slighty smaller motor it is the same. I free spools unlike my old MileMarker 9500 and although I haven't used it yet it has a pretty fast line speed so only time will tell. I will keep ya posted on how it does with winter kicking in and the snow about to start flyin...

I have been quite pleased with my Smittybilt XRC8. Not as good as yours, but for the price it really couldn't be beat. My line speed is a little on the slow side but I think the newer versions have a higher hp rating and less gear reduction.
enjoy!
Did it come with the synth rope or was that a separate purchase?

It came with it. It is the XRC 10k Comp, which just means that it has synthetic rope, and aluminum hawse.

I just found out about this forum and have been reading about your build. I have an '02 w/ 2.5"-3" OME suspention. My rear always sags. I stopped by Slee to ask questions about the LC80 springs. They have a bunch but he said there was a left and a right spring. Which side did you use or is he giving me a line of bull to get me to by stiffer OME springs for 3-4 times the price? Love your rig. Mine's been a slow 3 year build and still going. One toy a year.

I got my LC80 coils from someone on yotatech I think, and when they got here I remember standing them up next to one another and one will be a little taller that is the one you want on the driver side since it will be carrying the gas tank. The LC80 coils have been great so far, I can load the rig down and then hook up the trailer and I'm just a smidge under level. The only downside is they are very tall so the truck with a big tool box, spare, and custom rear bumper (now minus the swingout) does sit kind of raked. Kind of give and take.

Mine is level!!!! I like the LC coils and they will hold a load well, I replace mine about every 90k because I think they get a bit too soft but since have added air bags to prolong the life and it has worked perfect.

Hey, Thanks a lot! I have 285's on mine and have a lot of tire rub in the rear. The higher the better. Right now it looks like I'm popping a wheely especially with my sleeping/storage platform in place. I'd love to pick your brain on the 7th injector. What does it do and where does it go? Right now I'm working on a custom box to enclose my K&N high flow air intake so I can finally add a snorkel with out using the stock air intake.:snorkel:

No problem. The 7th injector is a piggy-back to the stock 6. The stock fuel injectors and pump can't give enough fuel to match the air flow the supercharger is now forcing down its throat so the system runs lean. One way to fix this is by replacing all six in jectors with bigger ones, or add a 7th which will pick up the slack that the stock six can't do. Mine is the older grey TRD charger so there is a blank plate on the driver side that the 7th plugs into which spirts fuel per the program from the URD box. Also needed is the bigger fuel pump in the tank to deliver the added need. With the program you can dial the truck in so everything runs together and your air to fuel ratio is correct so no more pinging under load.
I swapped the deckplate box from my old Tacoma into the runner with a TrueFlow filter which not only pulls alot of air through but stops all dust from getting in. After winter I will definetly be getting some sort of pre-filter for the snorkel for the dusty season to save from having to clean the filter after a run.

-Mojave Teflons

-Keep the stock ones

I've always been happy with my FJ Steel. They are 17" but they took my backspacing from 5.25" to 4.5" and the added confidence that they fit the vehicle hub and have no balance issues.

I was looking at Discount and they have factory style steelies but you can get them with and offset. Otherwise maybe the Pro-Comp series 98 in a 16x7 4" BS.
Here are some pics when I tried on the spare.

great part about your truck's color, you can go silver or black or polished and i think it would look good. personally, i like the black steelies, matches all your armor. how much offset/backspacing are you thinking, what you have now is 4.5 backspacing on a 16x7 correct? do you feel you need the offset for stability, or is it more for appearance?

I just have the stock wheels with some 1.25" SpiderTrax wheel spacers. Mainly for apperance to get them out level with the fender flares and my sliders. Plus helps to keep things from eating my truck :) I had the Type B wheelers on the Tacoma and they were perfect I think they were a 4" BS.

Took the plunge and painted my stock rims with some Duplicolor Truck Bed Coating. They turned out really good, the second time. I read somewhere that with the bed liner you want to spray a heavy coat then a light one for texture. Well that doesn't work so just do light coats and your good.

Finally got around to get some gauges for the runner. I ended up getting the dual gauge pod from Lotek, then a boost and wideband afr gauge from Innovate Motorsports. They were the closest ones I could get that matched the interior. I also have a new carpet kit coming for it, the old one got wet awhile back and just never could get the musty smell out so I got a new one coming and it is black so I might have to re-do the cargo area at some point.

Well I got tired of looking at everyone's pretty cargo drawers that they had and was tired of messing with my rubbermaid so I built my own with the help of my Dad. The problem was when I was loaded down I would have to pull everything out and open the lid for tools, this is much easier. I did it all out of 3/4" cabinet grade plywood, glued, and screwed with self tapping and self countersinking screws. I did cheap out a little and not get the 200lb slides I wanted since they were more than the whole box build and went with some 1/8" PVC strips so the wood slides on the plastic which is preety nice. Then hit it with some spray can bedliner and done. It ankers to the two tie downs in the back of the cargo area so if I need to go load something the tire and box come out in no time and fold the seats down and off you go
Now to mount the hi-lift back in across the back seat and a way to strap the fridge down :)

Those Bighorns are great tires. My son put a set on his Toyota pickup. He had the center lugs sipped for the snow and Ice at Lake Tahoe and they work great.

They appear to be US GI tool bags that are commonly used to hold gear for military vehicles. Genuine issues or knock-off bags can be found at Army-Navy or surplus stores including on-line, or you can find similar black canvas ones at Harbor Freight.

Yeah I got the bags awhile back at the army surplus store for something like $12 a bag.
The Co2 bottle is off of ebay long time ago, and the regulator is from Wheeler's Offroad, and the mount is from Powertank.
The tires are doing great, mine are sipped too.
The bedliner on the rims is doing well, one good thing to know for touch up instead of putting more bedliner on there is to use some Duplicolor bumper coating, matches for color and has a different texture than regular paint so I use that and you can't tell if and where I touched them up.
As for the carnage shots I will get some up here in the next few days:Wow1:

Shoot, that wouldn't last in the back of my truck for a week. However... it does look nice in the back of the purdy runner!
Lets try 520 again without the snow :-D
One can get the CO2 tanks from AirGas or whatever. Of course, they are not as pretty, not are they as expensive, and they are larger, and one would have to make your own holder. But, the regulators are the same! Of course, this route would be the cheap route. Being I managed to get into the setup for $55...including a tank refill.

Well I went over to the dark side:elkgrin: I ditched the FJ80 coils for some new OME 891's. Free standing they are about 2" lower than the LC's but have more wraps closer together. Weight is the key when figuring out a suspension, the LC's did great when I had the swingout but since then it has had a good rake in the back that has bugged me. The 891's sat it nice and level with the front and they carry the same load as the LC's. I'm going to let them settle in before determining if I need the trim packers or not. Turns out that the camera didn't have the memory card in it so all the comparison picks are for not.
