Im thinking of taking the kids ages 8 to 12 (all pretty experieinced hikers for their age) on this hike weds. Never been before. Far as I can tell its 3.7 miles and about 1200' elevation change. Does anyone know what the terrain is like, what temps I should expect etc. I just have some basic instructions to the TH. Any info anyone has would be great.

the quote and map above says it all, the open trail is a real hiking trail and is all downhill there and of course all uphill back, its well maintained and groomed, not a whole lot of loose rock scambling. expect it to be hot, its only a few degrees cooler than Phx during the day until you get near the water.

It is also one of the more popular destinations for the weekend warriors, so it often is a bit on the busy side. Personally I'd hold off on it till fall when it's a bit cooler.
