Hi Folks,

I've been looking at Sears Platinum batteries for my 1999 XJ. It's my understanding that the Sears Platinum is a re-branded Odyssey.
I looked here:

The specs for the group 34 auto and marine units are the same. The only obvious differences are the extra top posts, lower price and shorter free replacement period on the boat battery. I like the extra posts and can live with the shorter guarantee. Am I missing some thing else?

I had a yellow top Optima at one point that had top and side posts. I found the way the mounting bracket holds down the battery didn't really allow the side posts to be used easily and without risk that if it moved, it would not short out the positive side post on the long bolt.

When I replaced it under warranty, I got one without side posts. I liked it better.

As for the Sears Platinum, I moved my yellow top into our trailer and bought a new Platinum back in Dec. 08. So far I have been very happy with it. Since we might go a month between useage, it fires up with no issues. I also like the fact that if I should need a replacement, it is easier to find a Sears when traveling.

Good luck with your choice.

Another option is the Yellow Maxx (3 yr free replacement) from Walmart. They are made by Deka Batteries in Pennsylvania. I've been very happy with them. It must be the Yellow Maxx ones, the cheaper ones are junk.

Thanks guys!
Am I correct in my assumption that the Sears Platinum is a re-branded Odyssey?

I've been looking at these batteries to replace the junk one in my daughters ZJ. Just like Sears, there's a Wallyworld every few miles, so replacing one on the raod would be fairly easy if needed I would think.
