Looking to get my hi lift out of the cargo area but don't want to roof mount, trying to keep the CG as low as possible. ARB on front doesn't have room. Wondering if this would work on my XJ stock rear bumper. Any comments?

If your jack is a 48 and you remove the foot, it will fit under your rear seat. Keeps you from rust and grime in the pins.

I second the under the rear seat location. That is where mine is located.

that would work fine, and now hi-lift has a neoprene boot available that can be bought and put over the working parts of the jack to protect them from the weather.
another option is a boot gaiter, for hiking. At places like REI you can buy just
one, and put it over the jack mechanism. I think I saw some for like $10.00, last time I was there.
I have car seats on my rear seat, so I can't use that area for quick access storage, like some others can, but that seems like a pretty good option, too.

Just make sure that wherever it's placed in the interior that it's secured down and can't move in case of a roll over. The last thing you want is a 48-60" Hi-Lift jack flying in the air if you accidentally roll your vehicle.
Good luck!

Still have to fangle a way to get it on the rear bumper. People keep asking me what calibre my jack is. :)

thats the other reason I rather weatherproof it and stick it outside...as a projectile it would be catastrophic. :Wow1:

For now mine is under my seat. My Kj has plastic bumpers and has nothing to attach brackets to.:smiley_drive:

I have all my recovery gear under my back seat of the ZJ. So I had no room for the HI lift. I drilled two hole and stuck two bolts through the metal frame that the bottom of the back seats rest on. Its tucked in enough that on one has noticed it in the rear "leg room" area. But I also rarely have anyone in the back but the dogs and they dont complain much. I think if car seats are back there it would be a great place in your rig. Secure, safe (if bolted in) out of the general way, low and still easy enough to get at.

I had used that exact mount to mount it on my front bumper when it was stock. Worked fine. Just a pain drilling through the bumper steeel. Now it is going to go on the swing-a-way tire carrier on the back bumper.

I like them on the hood. I bought a set of those 4x4 racks a long time ago, i wasn't real impressed by the quality and ended up making my own mounts

yeah, BigAl, he'd probably benefit from seeing your fabbed mounts. Might be able to adapt them...

I orginally used the 4x4 rack mounts on the face of a 2x4 box bumper. I didn't like the way they looked so I scrapped them, all but the clamp plate.
I made my own mounts, reused the clamp plate and used the hinge bolt to hold them down. The bolt I used is stainless.

I drilled through the back seat and attached two big Quick Fists. I can securely attach a Hi-Lift and a Pull Pal there. Hard to get to if the back is full of gear though.

When I bought my XJ, I thought that since it had been around so long and so many have modified them then modifications and info on what works and what doesn't would be ironed out into a fine art. Boy was I wrong. Just look at the endless threads of worthless info that the Naxtards post. What a joke when it comes to getting good info on what works. Seems like as the price of these rigs hits rock bottom then so did the quality of info available on them and the people that post the info. Sad. Any way since good and safe storage on a Hi-lift jack in an XJ has been debated to the point of rocket science on the other sites I decided starting from scatch would be my best bet. And guess what? The stupid jack slides right under the passenger seat uncut. Lift the rear cuision and it pivots right out. Slide the passenger seat foward and the jack has plenty of room to slide right under the front passenger seat. Now the base is flush against the steel rear seat bulkhead and held with a bolt and wing nut and a bungie will stop the top from rattling against the inside of the outboard seat base frame. The front passengers don't even realize its just under them and the rear...Who cares if you have to put 1 foot on the jack. Slide seat foward, pop out rear seat cuision and undo a wingnut and bungie and it's ready for action.
