So I get a call from the tire place this morning and they said they can't mount the tires on Boomer because the fronts are rubbing on the fender. I'm going to try and do a quick chop this afternoon to make clearance and take it somewhere else. Any ideas how much fender needs to be removed for the 285's to fit?? I don't want to hack too much, but also don't want to hack too little. HELP!!

I had the fenders opened up on my 78, but I don't have any pics. You basically need to cut as much as possible. The fender is pretty skinny at the rear anyway, so you'll probably only trim 1-1.5". It needs to be cut, then boxed to look correct.

K...boxed will have to come later. For now, I'll try and eek some steel out of the way. Did you follow the arch coutour or just make a pocket in the offending area?

If you follow the contour, you won't get enough metal out of there. I would trim as much as possible, thats what I did on my current van.

I ended up trimming about 1.25 and as you suggest, I couldn't follow the contour. It doesn't look bad though. I now need to trim a little from the front, as I touched off a bit last night during a turn, backing up my driveway. Overall, the tires now have plenty of clearance. Thanks for the fast help!
