I like the idea and can only think price and maybe weight is why we don't see more set-ups like that.
There is a company in Salt Lake City that makes "utility beds" not boxes. Their bed has all the drawers and boxes of a utility box, but keeps the lines of the pickup bed. From 20 feet away it looks like a regular bed. I think something like that would be well worth the weight and would really compliment either an ARE utility topper with a sleeping solution or a FlipPac, Four Wheel Camper, roof tent, etc.
Lots of fun options still out there like this Ute tray and canopy idea (http://www.uteltd.com/pages/news_media_012305.htm)-

Weight and Price. Utility bodies are HEAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and they are EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
I was trying to get a Utility Liner style short bed cap on a truck my company is decoming. http://www.brandfxbody.com/fibrebody/inserts.htm
My company has not been able to figure out how to sell it to me and the company that gets our Decom trucks is out of state and I can't seem to get a firm comitmant out of them. Empty there are around 300lb. Just never worked out.
That company also makes a light (compaired to Steel) Fiberglass utility body that is pretty nice but we are talking $8k for them on the low models.
http://www.brandfxbody.com/fibrebody/service.htm They have them for smaller trucks as well.
