Hello everyone, I am new to Expedition Portal and this is my first post here. I have a '08 Taco TRD/OR and am planning a few modifications. First thing is a 2.5" lift from Camburg with 33" X 10.5" BFG MT KM2's. After that an ARB bumper with a M8000 winch. With these modifications will there be any rubbing issues with the oversized tires in the wells or on the new bumper? By the way I will be keeping the stock alloy wheels so there will be no change in back spacing.

1st WELCOME TO ExPo!!:sombrero: 2nd, by 33x10.5 I'm guessing you mean 285/75's?? I don't think you can get them in 33x10.5/16's. I'm thinking you be rubbing with only a 2.5 lift, not the bumper but on your inner fender and full lock and stuff.

Welcome to the Portal! I don't know if the tire size you mentioned is available in a 16" wheel size. I'm pretty sure that the brake calipers would rub if you went to a 15" wheel. Hopefully you will be able to make it to the movie night at Overland Journal on the 5th.

After actually looking at the available sizes I think I will go with the 255/85 R16's. Tacodoc runs that size of KM1's on his rig, which looks sweet by the way, and seems to do just fine. I don't know what trimming he has done, if any and I think he runs his lift at 3". Which is probably what I will do to accommodate the tires. However; I want to avoid going over 3" because of the CV issues and because it's a daily-driver. I don't want to trim anything on the car, I would get smaller tires before that happens. So I guess what I'm asking is with a similar setup to Tacodoc would I be able to get away with running that size of tire?
Thanks,
-S
Movie night on the 5th sounds like a plan, is it at the address on their website? Like somewhere in the lakes area?

I'm not certain that TACODOC trimmed anything but I'd bet he did. Anything larger than 265/75 is gonna rub with that little of a lift. You wouldn't have to trim much though. Also, your going to feel the extra tire weight a fair bit unless you re-gear. It won't be too horrible but you will notice the performance lag, especially if your going from stock shoes. I too will be going with 255/85 for my next set but I'm also going to to re-gear then as well.

On the new Tacomas there is a crossmember that runs right behind the front wheel wells. Anything bigger than a 32" tire is going to rub it. The only way to clear it, is to cut that crossmember back and box it.
Here's a couple of pics of what I mean:

I ran 255/85r16s on my 05 with minimal work. Tacodoc recently talked about it in his build thread and his experiences match mine. Minor uca rubbing and minor plastic trimming. I ran 4.5 bs wheels from my 02 taco on the 05 and that was the ideal bs imo.

Tacollie, what was the gas milage drop when you upped the tire size? I am anticipating about 3-4 MPG on highway, where I do about 85% of my driving. Also did you regear, I know Tacodoc did and went to a 4.88 but that seems a little extreme; maybe like 4.56's or 4.10's would be a more well rounded gear selection?

I got a steady 15-16 once I took the flippac off. I cruised on the highway in 4th a lot, otherwise the truck was downshifting constantly, but there are a lot of hills here. I would recommend a regear. Depending on the weight of your truck and if you pull a trailer on what you regear to. I was going to regear to 4.56s simply because it was cheaper. The 255/85 give the truck some much needed ground clearance and was worth the mpg drop imo.
