So I got my new 2006 Toyota Tacoma two weeks ago. Last weekend, I put it in 4Lo for the first time on some trails around Lake Tahoe. I'm in love with my truck. :)

I've never done the big expedition thing before, but I think it will be fun taking some trips with this baby. Specs are as follows:

2006 Toyota Tacoma
double cab, short bed
4.0L V6, automatic tranny
TRD Off Road package (rear locker, Bilsteins, better front seats)
towing equipment package (hitch, wiring, tranny cooler, wiring for brake controller)
Factory option SnugTop shell

I've equipped it for light trail use with a Gerber axe, Home Depot special shovel, leftover half of a climbing rope, jumpstarter box, small Craftsman toolbox and the like. I'm planning to have a Yakima rack installed on the shell and installing a Kenwood dual band transceiver. I also keep eyeing the new ARB bullbar, but I'm not sure I'm ready to pull the trigger on that just yet. Still have much to learn about off road driving.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello. :jump:

Adam - CONGRATS!

That is a beautiful area to do some practicing and test drives in! Sounds like your taco is loaded. Nice. Keep us updated on the experience.

Adam,

COOL! :clapsmile

I see you've already started the mods list. Be advised you will never reach the end of it! Once you start down the dark path. . .

cheers

Yes, I had that bug with my previous car. I modified it quite a bit for track days and autocross events. I've always wanted a Tacoma, though, and to take some trips off the beaten path with it.

A friend of mine is quite handy with fabrication, and he's offered to help me make some sliders for side protection. I'm looking forward to that.

Yeah, buying pieces to bolt on is fun, but making something from scratch for your truck is so much more rewarding! Or so much more of a pain in the #ss if you get it wrong!

cheers
