hand brake repair

I have a pinz 710...the hand brake cable is fraying and needs replacement.

The maint manual says you need a special tool which essentially lengthens the tube attached to the handle so the front end of the cable can be attached to the pull tube.

I think the front end could be attached by taking down the pulley and working thru that hole.

I would appreciate input from someone who has done the repair
