Do you mind if its other people's rigs and other people's pictures? I'm always finding great "random rigs" on the web. :)

I don't think there is any relation between the two, but I guess the Nissan Patrol does look like the older boxy Montero. The front though I think looks a lot different. However I have not seen an older Montero in a while.

Thanks! Ithink it was about a 30 second shot, or maybe 15 judging from the star movement. We attched the camera to a telescope tripod (never did get teh telescope all the way out), held it in place while painting the trucks with headlamps

Well it's a boat, not a truck, but it was our longest expedition.
26 days San Diego to Galapagos in 1993. Heidi stayed with Prima in the islands continuously through 1997 while I commuted back & forth. Then we left Prima moored in Academy Bay & both commuted back & forth through 2004. We just sold Prima in the Galapagos last year - "the happiest days of a boat owners life..." & all that.
While she has a 20 hp diesel auxiliary for windless slogs against the current, Prima was completely solar powered, including desalinator and even an xray unit (research - not medical!).
Anchored at Plaza Sur & leaving Santa Cruz for the continent for maintenance.

Found this pic in one of my files from a trip through Colorado last summer.
It's a 1st Gen 4Runner (I think '87) with a Dana 44 solid axle swap, a 22RTE turbo, 37" MTR's and a narrowed front end. It was built by a friend of mine Hans Nelson, who formerly worked in Arvada, CO for Off Road Solutions as a fabricator. He now resides with his 4Runner back in Lake City, CO where we first met years ago.

Was it always like that there? Up here it seems like they invaded in the last ten years or so but maybe I just hadn't noticed them before.

I see him several times a month. The coolest thing is he lifted his cherry picker's mast & boom off it's base & made them to bolt on the rear using the socket receiver and the spare mount stud. Can put the lifting hook over 15' in the air!

What the heck is that "Chainlink"? That's bizarre!
That's pretty much everyones rxn to it at that first crawler comp.
5.0 Ford SEFI. C4 w/ partial Dana 20 t/c (no front drive). Chain driven, enclosed within the suspension arms. HMMV redux boxes at each tire. One upside down 9" diff (w/ARB) in the center. Rocker arm linked air spring suspension. Hyd rams for rocker arm pushrods. Hyd rams for pitch control. Steering is all mechanical (no hydro-steering) but defies verbal description. Figuring out the Ackerman was a trick.
Can set it's belly flat on the ground & lift two of the 4 off the ground. While keeping the other 3 on the ground, can raise one front tire to a little over 9' of air btwn the bottom of the tire and the ground. Owner/builder is an Operator. Currently working on what will be, in essence, an Expi rig, based on military vehicle parts (no Rockwells in the eqxn). Maybe after that makes his wife happy he'll be able to build the lightweight single seater version cooking in his head.

The discussion about parabolic springs made me think of my first Series truck, a 1967 Series IIa with safari top. It had a Ford 289 V8 conversion in it and a 4lo that in some cases I had to accelerate to go downhill ... sold it, bought another because I missed it, but it needed a frame-off restoration so just sold it. Another will come my way one day.

Well, I can't match the scenic vistas and grand scale that y'all have out west with what I have here in lower Michigan, but these are a few from this weekend's trip to the northwest corner of the lower peninsula:

This thread is really great! Page after page of different rigs showing such a great variety of ways to get from there to there and so many different theres!
So many marques with their owners having a love for touring the outdoors in common. I'm impressed with all of you!
Being a newbie to this forum I thought I would introduce my RV, The Green Rover I've owned her since 1978:

This is my favorite image of The Green Rover taken on the trail. It was taken on the way home after a Border to Border trip.

A couple of pickups. First is my truck taken from the bed of Old tRusty, a 1980 long bed that belongs to my buddy Dean. This is the approach to Red Cone, near Montezuma, CO. The second is of Old tRusty, taken near Radical Hill, on the Michigan Creek side not far from Jefferson, CO.

I haven't made it up to Red Cone yet this year, but I hope to soon. It is one of my favorite places to get views from.

I recently had a opportunity to test drive a few different GPS units. The 276c is my absolute, hands down favorite. I just wish you could get the DeLorme software into the Garmin GPS....that would be the schiz-nitz right there.
While some of the other units I played with had some really cool features, for my use, and my personal likes/dislikes, the 276c is simply the best thing going right now.
Anyone looking at GPS units should take the time to play with a few different units before buying. It really is the only way you will find out what really is the best for *you*.
Now all I gotta do is find a way to distract Roseann for a few seconds while I quietly hi-jack her GPS.:hehe:

Look for an upcoming test and review in the Fall Overland Journal!
It is a great unit IMO - I agree with Brian. I used it with MacGPSPro with my Powerbook for really useful realtime tracking, since Garmin had not yet come out with the map-translation software and I couldn't upload an Africa base map. Right after I got home they released some software to make Garmin-compatible maps uploadable via Mac - haven't tested it yet.

Thanks! Ithink it was about a 30 second shot, or maybe 15 judging from the star movement. We attched the camera to a telescope tripod (never did get teh telescope all the way out), held it in place while painting the trucks with headlamps
That's a helluva photo. When you say paint, did you leave the lights shining on the trucks the whole time or just for a portion of the exp. time?

Not too shabby yourself! haha, actually your rig is a source of inspiration for me. If I didn't have to make so many compromises to meet so many needs with my truck, I'd be doing more of the upgrades that you've done with yours. Yours 80 is like Spinal Tap's amp that goes to 11.
