The ExPo collective is officially invited to attend the final "Soul Ride" on the 2009 calendar. This is a community mountain bike romp we do every month. These rides are promoted by Raven Singletrack, our little local mtb do-good group. Last year's final ride had more than 35 riders in attendance from all over AZ, so this could be pretty fun.

Where: Granite Basin (northwest of town off Iron Springs Road)
Parking: Cayuse Day area
When: November 7th, (Saturday) 9:00 AM
Who: Anyone - Geared, Singlespeeders, dual boingers, fixie whackos, anyone.

This will be a good ride for intermediate riders. Novice riders will find the terrain and tempo a bit too much. The loop we'll do is a killer mix of fast singletrack and mildly techy rocky business. Much of the loop is exposed so we'll get the last taste of summer sunshine. November at Granite Basin is amazing. Expect the total ride time to be around 2 hours with ample options to squeeze in a longer ride after.

The tempo will be casual, but quick enough the ride doesn't drag on too long. Hammer heads are welcome to plow ahead of the group but we'll razz them for being unsocial when we can.

There will be prizes given away and food shared. Come up to Prescott and not only ride in the best month on our calendar, but close out a great year of rides in style.

If you want more info, shoot me a PM.

Christophe

I think we've got a full blown event on the books for tomorrow. Last chance to be part of the circus! We've got confirmations for well over two dozen riders. We've got guys driving down from as far away as Utah and as far south as Tucson. This is going to be sweet.

Change your plans. Drive to Prescott!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flounder-

Feel free to try to lure these folks by letting 'em know that we're offering a cooler of Pabst.

Or, are ExPo folks' tastes too high-falutin' for PBR? :sombrero:

What a fantastic day to be on a bike in Prescott, Arizona. At 8am, I peeled off my light jacket and by noon, everyone was in shorts and short sleeves. This a week after a day of snow flurries. Prescott rules!

The turnout was better than expected. Counting mountain bikers in a parking lot is not unlike counting chickens or cats, but we think with the few riders we picked up along the ride, we might have topped out at 50-55 riders. Not bad for a grass roots event promoted mostly by word of mouth.

Alpinehooha was along to join the mix. We had more than a few big guns with a former national champ in the mix, but the real fun was at the back of the group where the slow...er...soul riders were. The ladies at the back of the group inspired a great new catch phrase, "go slow and giggle."

It was a great way for Raven Singletrack to close out a fun year of events and we're sure 2010 will be even better.

Stay tuned for better pics from Alpinehooha. Mine were pics grabbed on the fly.

We quickly filled the parking lot with riders of all levels.

Most of the group strolled back to the starting point at noon, which is a fine hour for the beer of mountain bike beers, PBR.

Wowie wow wow. Would you look at that. A rider from FORM bicycles showed up to make us all feel terrible about our crappy bikes. This thing was a real stunner. Me want one.

Looks to me like the engine on that FORM bicycle can turn out some watts.

It was a great day. I wish more of the ExPo crew could have made it out with us. Stay tuned for a complete 2010 Raven Singletrack schedule.

His belt-driven SS Form was even more beautiful. Exact same bike but SS. The custom-machined coupling on the drive-side seatstay was incredible.

$1,600 retail for the steel versions.

I'm very glad I didn't see that rig. $1600 for steel is the going rate for a bunch of frames. I think I'll buy one. Can you float me $1600?

I will loan you $1600 next month for a new frame if you'll loan me $30 tomorrow to fill up the Suby!

Scott,

They really are average frames at best. That FORM frame looks like it could not only break at any minute, it could probably cause a tumor or at the very least a severe facial tick. You don't want it.

At least not until I get one first!!

You'll have to check out their web site. They've got some beauties on there.

Daryl used to work for Titus Cycles and now heads up FORM in Sedona.

The welds on those frames he had were phenomenally done. You cannot beat a handbuilt frame by someone who knows exactly what they're doing. And keeping it local is what it's all about.

That's the kind of company I'd like to line up for sponsorship of our singlespeed race in October.

And copper headbadges in the Copper State... that's solid.

I was running late, and ran in to Flounder at the top of the first climb as he was holding the gate for a few of us bringing up the rear. It was about here that the "go slow and giggling" commenced. Having not riddin in about a week, I was eager to get my pair of two nines a rollin. But, it soon became apparent the back of the train was the place to be on this Soul Ride.

Flounder let me ride ahead and be the star of his Go-Pro helmet cam, and I tried not to dissapoint pretending to be 10 times better than I am and pulling every grom style wheelie and air I could find.

I think everyone agreed it was a lousy to day for pedaling, and we would have preferred 30kt winds, and toe numbing cold, over the unseasonbly 70 degrees sun, gentle breeze, and autumn color.

This Soul Ride wouldn't be complete without Ed.
