Finally got a chance to get some quality pictures today with the new setup. Found a pretty good use for the PVS-7b bag as well since I have a Pelican case to keep those in. Using it as a ammo bag.

That's one of the most hideous AR's I've ever seen. But in your other thread you claim your AR was a Colt. That's not a Colt AR you have there. You can't take "good quality" pictures when you don't have anything of good quality to take pictures of.

AR's are more and more like Jeeps. Open up a catalog to find a bunch of bolt on stuff. Nice pics but just not my cup of tea.

Lmao, yeah you seem like a real good source to take seriously. I think I'd know whether or not it's a Colt. Not to mention you can clearly see the 'Colt' logo in one of the pictures.

While not one for political correctness I think in this case if you don't like it too bad, It's obvious (at least to me) that this gentleman was posting pictures of his beloved AR and you flame him for it? Sir I say to you, post some pictures of your lovely built (if it applies) Rover so we may flog it too.

something tells me that he was making a point that even if something is nice... like his LR looks to be people will flog it... kind of what you are doing
and 2nd. i dont know if your claiming that that one is not a COLT modle AR-15 or that COLT doesnt make them... but that one is a COLT. it has the COLT logo right on the mag chamber if you look

Obviously DiscoD has reason to believe otherwise.

So I know this forum section is titled "hunting, fishing, guns"...but I don't dig that a google image search will pull up pics like this on a family friendly overlanding site.
Just voicing a concern, a thought, nothing more...
A well crafted breakdown bird gun, a legendary African safari rifle, classic leather shell bags all would fit within the "expo" world, but somehow this just doesn't put out the leather and canvas vibe that I love about this place.
Oh and colt or not really doesn't matter to me as you just end up in a Toyota, Jeep, Hummer circle.
And one last thing for anyone ready to pound the keyboard that I am some ain't gun dude, well you ought to check the report on the 2007 Expo Trophy where shooting was part of the comp...I am proud of how my results. However in my personal life I am more of a concealed carry, you never know it's there till you need it, keep the peace, low trouble kind of guy :)

Just because you do not understand what you're looking at does not mean these type guns share beauty and craftsmanship of their own.

What model Colt is it? I've never seen a Colt that looks like this one. Everything about it differs from a Colt AR. The stock, the barrel, trigger, rails, sights, the entire upper receiver.........

Oh and I never said there wasn't craftsmanship and beauty in these firearms...I said I really don't feel these images have anything to do with the core concept of "expo"...
You can't take these on international trips..
These aren't your classic safari rifles...
These aren't hunting firearms...
You can't take these on multi-state US trips or into many state or national parks (I know the National Parks thing has changed a bit)..
We have a tough enough time fighting the image the public holds of "offroaders" and "wheelers", trying to set us apart as upstanding outdoor stewards it also tough when a quick google image search makes us look like "black ops" kit totting wanna be's (nothing personal against Street Wolf).

Wow really? I wake up and this thread has already gone this far? Delete the damn thing if needed, it's not providing any real useful information so it's no big loss to most of the community or myself. Only one it's going to hurt is DiscoD (moderator editited out crude reference not tolerated on expo) not being able to act like he actually knows what he's talking about.

Well to begin with I didn't really feel the need to since you can clearly see the word 'Colt' and the Colt logo in a few of the original pictures. Or at least on my computer screen I can.

Yes I am very very worried about what people think...land managing people, voting people, law making people, gun hating people, private land owning people...lots of people.
And I am not for sterilization but style-zation if you will. I really would like to see the public image of a 4x4 driver be something positive, someone who seeks remote places and historical sites, someone who can help researchers get to remote areas, someone who values the land and does shoot it up or leave trash.
Here in the southwest we have tons of areas where shooters have destroyed stoves, fridges, couches, cactus, trees, signs and so much more. That means that being seen with a big black assault rifle (vs my concealed carry glock) groups me with that destructive crowd.
Now if I am showing off my finely crafted breakdown bird gun or my classic safari elephant gun then people don't evoke the same mental images.
We as off highway travelers have to start thinking about our image since what we are currently doing is failing miserably, judging by our constant battles for land access and our losses we need to do something.
Or we can continue zombie talk, post pics of are arsenal and generally feed the wrong perspective people have of us.

Just because you haven't seen a Colt like this one...does that mean it can't be a Colt?
No, it doesn't. But this is not the first time this gun has been posted by StreetWolf (Moderator edited name calling, it just isn't allowed) on this web site. This is not the first time he's been asked to verify the make and model of the gun, either.
If this gun turns out to really be a Colt, I'll learn something new. At this point I'm just struggling with the credibility of the OP.
Oh and I never said there wasn't craftsmanship and beauty in these firearms...I said I really don't feel these images have anything to do with the core concept of "expo"...

That could be said about a lot of things on this site. Have you seen some of the "builds" on this site? If you want to protect the public image of the Expo site, maybe you should start with some of these trucks....better yet start with some of the photos of trucks doing illegal activity on OHV trails.
If you do not like AR style weapons, fine. You're not hurting my feelings any. But to say these type guns do not share a place with people who love the outdoors is just ridicules. Claiming that you cannot carry this type weapon into other States or Countries is just a failed attempt at you trying to justify your reasoning to share your opinion.
Like an AR, in some States the Taurus Judge is illegal to possess. Given your stance on guns, should a personal defense weapon such as the Judge not be discussed on Expo? Lets review what you said and apply this to a personal defense weapon such as the Taurus Judge:
-You can't take these on international trips..
-These aren't your classic safari rifles...
-These aren't hunting firearms...
-You can't take these on multi-state US trips or into many state or national parks
Are you taking the stance that the people on Expo should not be carrying? Or that they should just not be talking about it?
It's the people such as yourself who try and keep gun talk hush-hush to protect some sort of mysterious image you do not want others to know about or associate you with. That's fluffy bunnies. The word "gun" is not a dirty word and owning and shooting guns is not a bad or shameful or illegal hobby.
You played the "I own guns" card and I think it's funny. That's just like playing the "I'm not a racist because I have black friends" card.
Lumping the AR style weapons into the political uncorrectness category puts AR's in the same class as sex-swingers and atheists'. There is nothing illegal about an AR and I think it should be talked about openly. It's our 2nd Amendment right to own firearms and just because you do not like pistol grips and hand shrouds does not mean these type weapons do not belong on an outdoor enthusiast web site. You feel these weapons have a negative impact on the overall image of 4-wheelers or overlanders or expeditionites or whatever you want to call yourself. It's people with viewpoints such as yours that these style weapon have become scary. What's so scary about an AR, the carry handle?
I, for one, carry some sort gun on every trip I do. Sometimes that's a Glock, other times it's an AR or shotgun. Sometimes it's more than two or three guns. I like to shoot guns and I'm sure other on this site do, too. But saying that AR's do not fit into the helm of things on Expo is a drastic ploy into your shameful anti-gun views. I bet you voted for Obama.

Several people hunt with AR rifles; as an example, my father-in-law has taken 5 deer with his Colt SP1.
Worrying that an Express rifle will be more favorably viewed than an AR is a bit absurd, IMO. If someone doesn't like guns they won't be pleased with either a 1935 H&H double in .375 Flanged or an AR with every whiz-bang tacticool accessory.
A nut could likely kill more people in 2 seconds with the H&H than an AR, especially in a very crowded environment; in a mall a single .375 solid would go through several people before stopping.
Two rounds from that classic double could kill twenty people with two shots in about 2 seconds.
Unlikely, but possible.

Regarding this forum, it does say hunting and guns. Guns can absolutely be a part of adventure travel and an enjoyable/related activity. Guns have always been a part of my life.

I don't really get the point of this thread. A bunch of pictures of a gun not being fired off. The pictures are not HQ, rather plain and exposure is off. The gun is useless in a civilians hands unless you're one of those people that loves to show off material stuff to better justify your existence.:ylsmoke:
Post a picture of the gun in action at a range or a video showing a burst of fire. Then it will get more interesting. Tell us the pros/cons of the setup and why such a large scope. etc.:26_7_2:

A lot of hate in this thread. What's the deal? Disco D, so you don't like Street Wolf's rifle...Big deal. Why beat the buy up? I'm not really an AR, but so what? We can all be a little more civilized. If you can't say something nice, and all that.....
Being in Texas and sporting that BSA 6-24 scope it looks like you're hunting varmints, Wolf? How does that scope work for you? I'm a big fan of good glass but once in a while a $100 scope will come along that performs above its price.
Don't have any pictures but I spent the afternoon sighting in my new T/C Triumph Bone Collector and Nikon Omega scope. Fun. I also spent some time with a CZ Carbine in 7.62x39....My new favorite rifle. :)
Anyway, we're all friend here. Try to keep the piece.
