If you want to see a website that installs the armor, check out www.alpineco.com they import all the cool trucks, however they don't, won't or can't sell to Joe public that live in CONUS. They did at one point tell me they would sell an un armored truck...

The Harrison Ford movie, "Clear and Present Danger," has a pretty accurate depiction of what happens to an up-armored Suburban when it's hit by a rocket propelled grenade. A roadside bomb composed of a couple of 100mm mortar rounds will toast any vehicle, including any APC or Stryker. A .50 caliber Barrett sniper rifle, capable of penetrating tank armor from a mile away, can be purchased from any licensed gun dealer in 49 states. So don't kid yourself about uparmored vehicles.

I'd like to see a Barrett .50 penetrate an Abrams armor...or any main battle tank, for that matter. Light armored vehicles, ok, but not a tank.

I've personally shot a Barret 50 cal that easily penetrated 1/2" of plate steel with incindiary (sp?) rounds. Not only are they designed to pierce tank armor, they are designed to shoot through engine blocks and through reinforced concrete walls of up to 1 foot thick. Kinda scary stuff. Ironically, the same guy who owns it has an ex state department Excursion, fully armored with night vision, an air filtration system that filters out bilogical and radioactive agents, run flat tires with kevlar center donuts, and a bunch of other ridiculous stuff. It runs a supercharged V10 and was designed and used for leading processions and being able to drive through a bus if needed (ie the road was suddenly blocked). Pretty wild stuff.

Yes, the .50 cal will penetrate. I believe the saboted .30 tungsten rounds at close to 5000 fps will go almost an inch at 500 meters.

This is why you need such a deep back stop when shooting the .50 cal, not to mention a hell of a long range to justify $5 a shot. Most don't even begin to stabilize till around 200-250 meters.

You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of that excursion would you?

To be honest, I think it I were to live in a larger community, such as Phoenix or Dallas, I would consider a mild armored vehicle....door armor and glass, which would withstand standard handgun rounds, up to a .45.

Chances are a carjacker wouldn't have a .50cal or rocket propelled grenade....

That being said....is why I'll never live in a community I feel the need for one....

I'll second that. When I start to think armor might not be a bad idea for my DD it's time to move.
