147.140 + 162.2 W7ARA Mt Elden, Flagstaff (usable from Prescott, William's, Cottonwood/Camp Verde, Winslow, etc.)

147.360 + 162.2 W7MDY, Mt Ord, Sunflower (usable from the East Valley, Payson, etc.)

I'd be down with that, though I don't think in Scottsdale I can hit any of the listed repeaters. I can however hit Mt. Lemon repeaters if any of those are linked anywhere North?

Over Thanksgiving I talked with Mark on the 147.360 machine with my HT, a VX7R with its stock rubber ducky. I was located way up north of Scottsdale (roughly Carefree Highway and Scottsdale Rd, is that Carefree or is it Cave Creek?). I had the radio at 5W, which was barely enough to open the repeater indoors, but outside Mark said I sounded OK. I dunno exactly how far that is to the repeater, but with a good antenna (or maybe more power) you'd probably be fine.

Indeed, I have had several chats with folks even farther south than Dave was. I was down in Mesa (near Willy) in August and had no problem getting out to the Ord repeater.

For most of Scottsdale or the Mid-East Valley, Thompson Peak is in the way. I think far up North you're around that small mountain range. Thompson Peak however has an amazing repeater at 147.080 BTW. BUT, you've got my curiosity up again, so I'll try to hit it from a few spots. Converseley, those in the higher country may want to try and hit 147.080?

If we can find a repeater with echolink, then out-of-state members like me will be able to check in either from another echolink enabled repeater, or over the internet via VOIP.

This sounds cool. Oddly, I was on the road this morning at 5:30 and remembered that you (crawler) said somewhere else that you're on the Mt. Ord repeater about that time. Bummed me out because I didn't have my repeater list with me, otherwise I would have called. :)

The echolink/IRLP systems need more investigation! They may offer the best opportunity for getting a bunch of us together. I had a brief contact via IRLP with a ham in Hawaii a month ago. Kinda wierd to hear some one calling out "mahalo!"

now I just need to learn how to program my radio!

Good news . . .

I can hit the 147.360 repeater on Mt. Ord all the way to my friggin' house in Chandler. Maybe it's not that impressive, but I'm pleased. :)

And I tried out IRLP on a 70cm repeater and had a blast with that. Talked to Scotland, and didn't get a response in Antarctica. Oh well, you win some and you lose some.

Now, the radio idea is pretty cool. But I wonder if it's just easier for us to pick a bar and meet at it on Friday during happy hour. :beer:
