In the spirit of the season...
How about we try a..."Random SNOW RIG Pic" ...thread.
Show us Your Rig in the snow. Campsite snow pics. I would even like to hear what gear guys take for the snow but that probably belongs in another thread subject.
Hum.....is it possible to have a random pic thread with a theme? We shall see!

I can't believe it's mid December in Toronto, Ontario, Canada - no snow and 10 C / 50 F temperatures for the past week. Not complaining - I've had my Land Rover out a few times and put the Christmas lights up without the usual frostbite etc.
I've attached a few photos from a trip I did with a buddy of mine from Peyton, Colorado. Highlight of this trip was a frosty hike and over-nighter at Ice Lake. Not a bad blizzard - even by Canadian standards - on the way down Californa pass as well....

i really dig that green rover with the tire on the hood...reminds me of "the gods must be crazy". always wanted one of those...
here's my contribution--medano pass, it was either late october or early november, but i know it was before snowboarding season b/c we haven't been out with the truck since the mountains opened :p.

lots of cool snow pics! the one with the white landy droping into the creek is now my desktop background at work! ;)
here is my brown/silver truck in Big Bear -

another one, but in all stock shape -
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c320/ua_taco/big%20bear%20snow%20trip%202004/DSC02286.jpg
and I was surprised how well the big stock Armada was doing that day - he made it thru all snow and mud without getting stuck except for one time when he was trying to pull out a stuck dualie chevrolet (you can kinda see it in the back) from the snow (dual tires, even though they were BFG all-terrains, were definitely slowing that chevy down, as it had to break thru fresh snow with its outer tires pretty much thru the whole trail)

Well... better never than late - but I just took these and had SO much fun! This is a little more than an hour out of Anchorage and it was -08 (F) My buddy has a Titan that is pretty bitchin but lucky for him I was in the Landy, to take care of the big stuff. :bigbossHL:
While I had the RUD chains - we never needed them. The BFG All Terrain's did pretty good over all.

Well I Guess I'll start the 2007 season off with a shot of my Land Cruiser near Roslyn, Washington on November 29, 2007. With the record rainfall we just received, there may no no snow there any more.

I don't do snow very often. For some reason I only encounter it when it is cold.
Here's an old picture of my Land Rover in Eastern Montana. Two days later I broke a front axle trying to work my way through deep snow. I phone ordered a new front axle to be UPS'ed to a camp ground I found on the map and spent a day replacing the axle when both the new axle and I arrived at the camp ground.

Holidays last year. This was day two of a snow storm. Too bad I did not think to take a picture of the first day. The snow on the hood was over the roofline of the Tacoma after the first day!
The Tacoma:

Don't jinx yourself.
I've lived in WY & CO since 1994. But by far the worst/best/biggest storm I've ever seen was the Blizzard of '93 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storm_of_the_Century_(1993)), while I was a student at ASU in Boone.
From Wiki - "The heaviest snow recorded was at Newfound Gap (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfound_Gap), where U.S. 441 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._441) crosses the Tennessee and North Carolina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Carolina) border, with five feet (1.5 m);[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] drifts up to 14 feet (4.3 m) were observed at Mount Mitchell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Mitchell). Snowfall totals of between 2 and 3 feet were widespread across northwestern North Carolina. Boone, North Carolina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boone%2C_North_Carolina) — in a high-elevation area accustomed to heavy snowfalls — was nonetheless caught off guard by 24 hours of below zero Fahrenheit temperatures along with storm winds, which (according to NCDC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Climatic_Data_Center) storm summaries) gusted as high as 110 miles per hour. "
I personally observed over 4 feet of snow at my apartment. I was snowed in for 7 days, literally having to dig a tunnel to get out my front door. The winds, the thunder, the freezing temps and the drifts were supernatural. A 5pm curfew was put into effect and the Nat'l Guard was airdropping supplies into town. One of the crazier weather-weeks in my life....

Maximumrob, in full agreement with your thread 'debt-free livin' is spot on to the live style we choose. Decided to not to have new car payments again (though my wifie is amazing and paid off our last Camry, then Astro off in less then 2.5 years each :wings: ), cause it did nothing for our fiscal plans. Several years ago discovered that low mileage, economical, 15 year old vehicles can be imported from Japan to Canada for reasonable cost. We have two Mitsubishi Delicas, both powered by WVO, and my grey one there was self imported imported for less cost then a new ARB front bumper and winch. Mitsubishi vans have great build quality and every Canadian owner maintains them religiously. Must admit that my personal ideal vehicle since Highschool is bang-on to Dylan's rig above!
Edit: we have our own little forum: http://www.delica.ca (http://www.delica.ca/forum/)

A simple day trip through the Laguna Mountains the day after a snow storm. Some awesome views looking down into the Anza~Borrego desert. Look close within the pic link at the early shots of the day and see the fire damage....white snow on black trees. Some houses being rebuilt along the way. Look for the pic in Julian of the old 1849 Miner (he seems to be holding his age well!) in Julian holding his wifes purse and helping her down the stairs.

Awesome rescue pics!
Here is a non rig snow pic............
Last thursday it snowed clear down to the Ramona, CA. airport. Probably 1,500 feet or so. Freak storm outta no where. Here is a shot driving along "Black Canyon" which shows the snow on the local hills near Ramona still sticking and if you look close you can see the "burn" from the Witch Creek Fire last Oct. 2007 which burned through this area.

I didn't catalog all the posts with missing photos, but in my post (#93), and Nate's post (#100), the photos that were originally attached seem to be missing. I've tried with both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
I also haven't been able to attach photos to new posts for the past several months (embedding a photo that is hosted elsewhere works fine of course). Perhaps the two are related?
This thread is too good to hijack any more than I already have. Perhaps we can move this conversation to PM?
Thanks for the help,

Yes I made it into the stream without incident!
Here's my friend's Land Rover 90 trying to get out of a frozen stream. I broke through the ice in my Range Rover a few moments before, leaving him with this mess to deal with!
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc119/64rovr/misc/90ice.jpg
Those are 900x16 Michelins very submerged under the icy water!
And just for good measure, here I am winching my same friend and Land Rover back onto its wheels on the side of the highway last winter after his 1 vehicle rollover. No serious injuries and no serious vehicular damage, dont worry. I was right behind him the whole time though- freaky to watch happen to your friend.

BTW, we were under supervision of a Mass. State Trooper the whole time- to quote, "That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen!" (referring to the recovery we mounted with traffic whizzing by at 45mph)

Coming up an onramp to the highway, right at the end there was a poorly plowed section where the bank on the right jutted into the lane about 3 feet. he caught the edge of that with his right front tire at about 40mph. Caused the truck to spin around about 70*, then ride up the bank on the highway and flip over.

I decided to take a little drive up to Munds Park AZ to check out the snow. There was about 12 inches of snow on average and some areas with more. Unfortunately every single Forrest Service road I could find was closed and gated, but we were still able to drive a decent distance into the the Forrest. The truck did well and I used 4Hi mostly with the exception of one stretch of Forrest road that has some pretty deep snow which is where I used 4Lo. After driving as far as we were allowed to, we went for about a 2 mile hike which was awesome to just completely get away from everyone and everything and be surrounded by nothing by snow.

Still waiting to get out in the snow this season, but these are from last season up on Cobb Mt., ca
We were just tooling around in Boggs Forest

And back in the driveway after Boggs
http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo275/elcabritos/Land%20Cruiser/PC280067-1.jpg
We don't really get much snow up in Cobb. We have to go up to Tahoe for the real stuff.

Are you happy with those KM2's in the snow?
Very happy actually... This was the first time I have had the KM2s in the snow and I was very impressed. They did much better than the BFG KMs and BFG ATs which i have had before. While in Munds Park I found a snow packed icy paved road for the specific reason of testing the tires on that surface as well. I was very comfortable with traction at all times. They did exceptionally well getting through 12 inches of snow on a dirt forrest road, wet heavy snow, and very powder like snow. Of course they really shined in the slushy mud, but that is to be expected.

Not much in terms of action, driveway shots I'm afraid ... too much snow around here to really go out and play unless you have a behemoth of a truck.

I know this one has nothing to do with Overland Travel, but it's been snowing pretty crazy here in Michigan this winter and I've been helping a buddy out who plows the parking lots of the malls
That pile of snow is about the size of a house! I had to get out and take a picture

Drove back to Michigan over the Christmas Holiday to give a truck I restored to my old man for Christmas and they had plenty of snow to go around. The snow banks were taller than the roof (8.5ft) of my dirtymax. Snow Rocks! (for a week or so)
