Multi Purpose GPS - Too Many Choices

AH, there are way too many choices out there for a GPS. Maybe y'all can share your experiences with me. I'll use it in the vehicle, on road and off. I'll also use it hiking and kayaking. Hunting, Camping, Exploring in 4x4. Any suggestions?

Garmin 60csx. I use it for everything you plan on using it for, except the kayaking part, and it performs flawlessly. IMHO, I don't think there is anything that competes with it. I've used it on dirt bikes, in the rain at work, in my vehicles, hiking, geocaching, and it gets abused by my 18 month old as well as my 4 year old, and it keeps on ticking. My only complaint, is the screen is small compared to the vehicle based ones but other than that, it does everything the others do.

Delorme Pn series, mine has done good on the road, geocaching, hiking and mapping plots and property boundaries. Topo 8 software is great as well.

I am a GPS nut. I have a Lowrance Baja and several Garmin and Magellans. Garmin is the most user friendly, both on the units and software wise. You can't go wrong with the 60csx. Avoid units that use a touch screen. You will like their software too.

3 1/2 years ago, we wanted to get our son a GPS, since he was moving cross country and would be in a new area. We shopped until our head hurt and ended up getting him a Garmin 76CSx. He didn't want it so we ended up with it. A GREAT unit. It's water resistant, can drop it in a stream, lake and it's keeps on working. It floats. The acquisition of satellites is great, ours works in the house without an antenna. Just a great unit.

So you don't think the Garmin 60csx would be good for kayaking, or you just don't use it for that?

Both the 60csx and the 76csx are waterproof IPX7 standards. I don't know how long you can submerge either unit but if all you're worried about is spray or an occasional dunking, I'd think you would be safe with either one.

I think they make mounts for the 60csx for Kayaks, also they have marine maps available for it as well. I think it's perfect for kayaking personally.
