Folks, here is the first looks at a dapper ol' bloke who decided to put an Eezi-Awn 2200 on the roof of his FZJ80. To take a semi-quote from D. Trump: ``You'd look good in a tent like this, I know I do.''

First impressions are great and ``damn...that really is a big tent up there!'' It's basically two 1200's combined with a dividing wall in-between creating a 2-bedroom luxury camping suite. It's suprisingly easy to `pitch' completely by myself although it takes a touch longer due to it's dual-ladder system. I'll hopefully be having much more to write and say after some upcoming trips so I'll keep y'all posted, but here's some teaser shots in the meantime:

Here's my possibly permanent mounting arrangment, keeping it flush to the driver's side for a starboard overhang:

Wow, with a tent that size you and Mrs. pskhaat should consider having a few more kids. A whole gaggle of little pskhaats.....

The 2200 looks really good. I'm assuming similar height dimensions to the smaller models when closed up? Just a longer base, right? I think for proper proportioning though, you're going to need a bigger snorkel.

Damn, That's a big tent! :yikes:

So that rack didn't end up working out? It was a little puney compared to everything else about that tent...

That rack was supposed to wrap the bottom of the tent with the 1" square tube load bars, but I didn't properly take into account the mounting system of the tent and I couldn't get it to fit (yet) appropriately. I'm still going to tray and get it wrapped around though for accessory mounting and lights...

I second Scott's suggestion...

Previously, I rarely ran sway bars. My articulation was of course much better without and I didn't find road performance too bad. With the 2200 I've definetely re-installed the sway bars. With the tent on top (or any roof rack for that matter) I had more roll and the bars help road manners significantly.

what load bars are those, and where might one find them?

Does the 2200 series have the 42" flat panel option yet?.......

Did you have to apply for a new zip code for the HUGE bad boy?...

Since you have vaulted ceilings now....Do you need a Red flashing beacon light when you have that thing open so aircraft don't crash into you?......

:jump:

Great looking Tent my friend!!! I would love to see some detailed photos of the inside some time when you get a chance. Where did you get that tent from?

I Second that idea for renaming the simile in behalf of pskhaat!!!!!

Tent is really good. Super-huge pro: fits family of 4 with absolutely no problem and room to spare, no kidding. Dual ladders are nice, and everything about Eezi-Awn keeps true with this one.

Cons are the obvious. Due to its size, it consumes the whole roof, and had to re-install anti-sway bars. The rain fly has three outriggers and the middle one wasn't taken into account on the door sewing.

Overall, I'd totally do it again. I need to come up with another `roof-rack' idea for mounting, but that's my own gig about which to gripe.

Howdy! Just found this site; great info here! I'm over on ih8mud as well. :)

pskhaat,

Is the divider between the two compartments structural in nature? Or is it able to be removed? Have a interior pic by chance?

I'm looking at this tent to mount on a trailer to accomodate my family of 5 (wife and 3 preschoolers) but would prefer not to have a divider if possible.

Thanks ahead of time.

Is there a eezi awn dealer in the US who discounts these tents at all. I am interested in buying one, but want to get a ggod price. Any suggestions? Dean

No, the compartments or two rooms are separated through a canvas material. I have mine completely open for my family of 5. This tent has a lot of room for a rooftent (the most actually, but...) it's much bigger than a king size bed and the wee ones like to run around in circles up there once I get the screens all zipped down so they don't fall out :jumping:.

It gets the fam off the ground and makes the wife very happy because of that. Well worth it.

I think the pricing is pretty much the same across the board. I think the 2200 price is consistent if not better in terms of scale to the the other Eezi-Awn options. This tent in particular you even get a little more due to the dual ladders & tripple-spanned rainfly bows.

After the Bear attack here in Utah.....The roof-top tent idea is on the only way to go!!!! This case won my wife over!!!

How do you have your tent "completely open"? Is it a zipper mechanism or does the divider roll away?

O.K. so call me ignorant.... BUT ! which direction is ones head oriented.... opposite the ladders ? The feet are at the ladder end ?
Also what size foot print does this set up have ? I'd love to get ALL of the family up top.... any interior picts. ? Nice setup....

Generally yes, I like to put most of the weight above the vehicle itself (feet hanging). Sleeping by myself in there however I can actually sleep lenthwise atop the vehicle it's that big :)

It's over 7 1/2 feet on the roof.
I do have some interior pics and I've been searching my camera/backups for them. I'll post when I find them :|

The divider is a piece of canvas material that can be fully removed (it's velcro'd at the bottom).

If bears are a problem, why would you want to sleep on top of your food cache?

Everything I've read suggests sleeping at least 300 feet from where the food, toiletries, or anything that smells like food is (e.g. my son's car seat and my latte covered center console). They also suggest that you don't wear anything to bed that you cooked/ate in.

Hope it helps.
