Hey Guys...Intro Post

So as the title says... I'm new to the site but have been around the desert racing scene for a few years now. A little bio, My name is Joseph and Im currently located in Southern California. I was raised in a family who loves the outdoors and off-road exploration. Now to my current vehicle. I drive a 2005 Frontier that I'm "building" slowly but surely. The plan so far is to make it a reliable gear hauler to various camps and a sturdy vehicle to traverse unexpected obstacles off-road. Here are some pics:

How long have you had the radflos? I understand that PRG is changing them up and only offering an internal reservoir unit. Would love your take on the set up you have.

Also, what are you using on the rear suspension? The choices out there aren't very inspiring . . . yet.

I have had the radflo's for about 6 months now. I believe i was one of the last one to buy the c/o's with the external resi from Greg. There are two reasons on why I believe he stopped selling the model i have. First: The resi hose used to contact the tires at full lock. It is now fixed but the tire size will be limited to a 285/75/16. But as you probably already know thats the biggest tire possible at the mean time for our trucks. W/O a bodylift or some cutting of course. lol. Secondly, the price is now lowered by $200 which is more appealing and the amount of work (i.e. no need to weld the resi mounts on) is reduced.

For the rear I am currently running add-a-leafs, and longer shocks (Bilstein), which PRG also carries. Although the AAL's tend to shift on the driver side. I'm now debating whether I want to spend the money on alcan springs or wait until we have more choices out there for lifts thus reducing money spent on different set-ups. lol.

Overall, I'm happy with the ride. Way better than the Nismo spec Bilsteins I previously had. If your going to go this route though, I would suggest to get the 800# eibachs instead of the typical 650# Greg uses. The ride will be stiffer but it should prevent any sagging up front even with a winch and a steel bumper. *The 650# should be adequate. I have seen an Xterra with a wincher bumper set-up with no reported sagging.

With the inspiration garnered from build-up threads such as Mlachica's, Baja Taco's, Willman's and fellow frontier owner Articulate, I've decided to stop beating around the bush and start my build. This build up will span a little over a year, in which hopefully the truck will have a built front and rear end and also sporting cool gear such as some soltek hid's and full set of armor. Next project will be a light bar. For this month finding mounts for all this gear I've bought since joining the site and some bumpstops. Before I forget, I'd like to thank each and everyone of you for influencing me to go over and beyond what I first planned for this truck.

Specifically, how/where are you going to mount the Scepters? Ooooooh, and that radio?
What's this about a build front and rear? You mean gearing, or something else?
What are the options for a lightbar? Custom, or is there a manufactured solution?


I was just reading the latest issue of Four Wheeler - part 6 of their Nismo project - and they had some funky looking bumpstops like you show. Are they the same ones? What the heck do they do? I'm kind of craving the Total Chaos upper control arms . . .

Now the bumpstops. The ones you're referring to are the jounce shocks by lightracing. http://www.lightracing.com/lightracingJounceChoose.html There is nothing wrong with this product other than the price. For $1600+- front and rear that's a little too much.

Thus leading me to my second option of using radflo shorty bumps (2" stroke)which will be mounted in place of the stock striker pad. For $144 a piece it's not too bad of a deal.

The function of air bumps is too control the last few inches of uptravel, resulting in a smoother ride.

Teaser Bump Pics.

I have about 1" of up-travel before riding on the bump stops. I'm gonna try and see if Radflo can further shorten the stroke by about 3/4 of an inch.

Alright, I got a sweet deal on rear shocks, so they came on sooner than expected.

The shocks were on Greg's (PRG) x-terra for +-500 miles. They were too long for the set-up so he gave me a smoking deal on them. As for the stroke they're just about right, a little on the long side, although once I get my leaf pack it should be good to go. You can specify the stroke lenght and custom shocks can be made specifically for your application. I'll suggest to contact Greg if you want the same ones since he's not planning on retailing these. Just tell him you want the set-up Joseph has. Hope this helps. On a second note, I took the truck in for a little beating and I haven't bottomed out.

Well, the truck is finally getting where I want it to be. But with school and work it's still a slow process. lol. The truck now has some shrock sliders, a bumper/lightbar, and some cool black rims. :p Hopefully within the next month a rear tubed bumper.

Nice shots! Your Frontier is looking really good. Even though I love my 07 Tacoma, there are times I do miss my old Frontier. What are you planning after the rear bumper?

Thank you. My plans after the rear bumper are to make a belly pan and some storage boxes that utilize the utili-trac. I'm also going to be converting the lights to HID's, since "real" HID's are too impractical for my current budget. lol. Also, I believe Deaver has a full leaf pack out, but that will come later this year/early next hopefully.

Nice looking truck there. I like how clean and simple it looks and having a quality suspension underneath makes it a 4x4 "sleeper" of sorts.

I really dig that light bar, does it offer added protection? That truck is sweet.

Thank you once again for the kind words. The lightbar is built around the stock bumper and is made out of DOM and the horns are fully boxed. It was "semi-engineered" to compress on a heavy impact, but offer plenty of protection should something come up right up front.
