What is your current job? Last time we spoke (Calico), the previous job had just ended.

I really miss this, but it really took a toll on my body.

Well, you could always pay $750 per day and get your fix someplace like Steamboat Springs Heavy Equipment Play Arena. (http://www.mtn-resorts.com/Steamboat_Vacation_Planning_Activities_Main.php?ID =5&Season=Winter)

Yeah, I thought I missed it too. I'll do excavation side jobs every now and then, they remind me I don't miss it that much. From the first whiff of diesel...oh yeah I am sure glad I don't do this anymore to bring home the bacon. I have actually grown to loath the scent of diesel, reminds me of the looong days I used to put in.

Hehe, yeah Dave its me. I'm on the rock hammer and my dad is on the machine holding the rock. Last job I did with my dad.
Currently working for a company that makes archery equipment. Neat job, but its still not construction. Been running equipment for 10 years, officially that is. Hard on your body, long hours, but I still love it.

hehe nope. whats funny is that it took us almost 2 weeks to knock the hillside down to the level were sitting on and then almost 2 more weeks to finish digging out. had to go down 15' from that level, all thru solid rock. when we figured out the figures for the rock clause in the contract it came out to something like 90% rock per cubic yard. i would start breaking with the 5000lb jackhammer on my machine about 2 hours before dad started digging, just so hed have something to dig.

I really miss this.
Thank God I was never that Flashy! Although I was known to visit a local disco at times with my "semi" bell bottom pants, because I didn't want to be too flashy!

I like it!!! Although my Freight shaker didnt have quite that many lights!!! I miss driving too. There was something I really liked about driving cross country. ONly did it once in a rig, Fresno, Ca. to Louisville, Kentucky, but I've done it a couple of times in the pickup. I wouldnt mind getting another driving job at all. Had an FL76 with a big cummins in it, forget which engine. THat was strong truck!!! Was pulling a slurry tanker on a grinding job. Running, on the job, probably 20,000lbs overweight and still pulled 70mph without a problem!!!

50 piers in 10 days....10 very long days for a 3 man crew.
Then you have knucklehead Glazers mixed with knucklehead Landscapers:

You can have them. I am Heavy equipment Mechanic for the Finning Cat. For the last year I have been working in new equipment, ya it is fun driving D11s, 793, and lots of 777's but from the shop to the back of the yard is enough for me.
You work them, I will fix them.
Me at work with a 24H (A Big Grader) I worked on. I am 6'2" for reference .

This is always fun. You have the opportunity to drive heavy equipment such as fire engines and tractors, we have a fleet of 7 helicopters and I think we have 5 boats down at the harbor now. I have 21 years on and love going to work everyday. www.lafd.org

When I was young, in the job market. I worked at a Case dealership as a shop hand. It was fun driving all the big stuff. It was not so fun working in the dead of winter, powerwashing all the uniloaders and full tracks to get ready for the mechanics.
