One of my favorite side-effects of diabetes is that my feet can swell an amazing amount over the course of a day. (I have two pairs of New Balance running shoes with the same last, one is 8.5 medium and the other is 10 x-wide and both fit me perfectly depending on the day). I currently carry a minimum of three pairs of shoes when I am in the woods and I feel just a bit too much like Imelda Marcos... so I guess I am just looking for suggestions. I am also pretty heat sensitive, so I would prefer to not regulate size with thicker socks.

Should I just get some wider shoes and deal with a bit of moving around, or are there any other ideas out there? I generally don't hike more than 2-3mi per day, but comfort while driving and lounging is of supreme importance.

Throw me ideas!

IIRC Vasque sells (sold?) boots with an assortment of insoles that adjusted the size quite a bit...

Maybe look into velcro type(rather than laces) of walking/tennis shoe that are adjustable if your feet swell?

They might have something here?

DDan - I actually have a set of Yankz (elastic laces) on my old beater tennis shoes and they work well... I should see if they would work on my boots as well.
