Help! I need guidance on Sequoia repair

Well, my daily driver, an '02 Sequoia (4x4), has been problem free until now. Within the last month or two I shifted into drive and it didn't engage properly. It seemed to be slipping or something. A moment of rest, shift in & out of gear and it seemed ok.

I took it to the dealership. After preliminary inspection they said there were metal fragments (copper?) in the transmission fluid pan, so therefore the torque converter was failing.

They had it for a week, replaced the entire transmission (& some other work). Total bill was over $3500, which fortunately was covered on the extnded warranty (which I paid $1500 for at purchase).

I picked up the truck last night.

So this morning I get in, back out, shift into drive and the same darned thing happened!

Now what?
When I take it back to the dealership today, it would be nice to have some ideas to propose they check.

Any thooughts?

that sounds like a sensor failure - did they replace all the associated electrical components along with the tranny???

I don't think so, but they did do an electronics diagnostic initially and said it all checked out ok: computer A was communicating with computer B or whatever sensors were involved.
Too many electronics if you ask me!

Ed, it could be one of the solenoids. If they did not replace a failing solenoid you will have the same problem, and it will lead to full transmission failure again in the very near future. Have them check and replace ALL of the solenoids, as this should have been done in the first place. If one is failing it does not mean it will tell the computer it is going bad.
