You guys jinxed me! (tubeless)

So after bragging about my tubeless being trouble free for the last five years, I ate my words today. We went back out to the local trail were my wife pitch flated last week. Today in the same spot I hit the jump I felt an instant blow out. My wife says "Bummer this is where I flatted last time". I say " No worries I'll be back on the trail in 30 Secs". Thinking I just needed to dump a C02 cartridge in and we are good to good. I dump the C02 in a see green slime blowing out of a 1/4" tear in my tire. Ok no worries, I carry a tube for this one is five years flat. I break the bead on the tire and was immedaitley reminded what a PITA sealant is in the field. I go to take out the tubleless valve stem to through in a tube. I forgot I had to tighten the valve stem nut with pliers in order to get a good seal on the stem. I forgot to pack my Leatherman with my needle nose pliers. I was unable to get the valve stem off.

Long story short I ended up walking out. Fortunatley we were on a trail with several bail outs and wiffy was able to ride to the truck and come get me. So much trouble free tubeless. All and all this is only the second time I had a flat in two years. So I really cant complain. And it was my fault for not having the right tools. Im still sticking with tubeless.

Huh. I've tried slime. I've tried tubeless. I've never tried blaming my wife for my flats. I'll have to try that.

I still haven't made the transition to tubeless. 13 years of mtb, and I am still packing tubes and a pump. Haven't had to walk out yet (knock knock).

Well I had a 12 mile walk out once with tubes. I brought 5 tubes and yes I flatted them all in a hour. Pinch flats and cactus needles suck. Though I still can't see the glory of tubeless. Can't bring myself to run extra heavy power sapping UST tires that cost a fortune.

I usually run standard tires with stans. I've never had to walk out. I've gotten a couple flats on the trail(over a 7 year period of running tubeless), but I carry one spare tube, a tube patch kit, and a tire patch.

I only had to walk out cause I wasn't really prepared. (Or so I thought.) I should had had a pair of needle nose pliers in my bag. As it turns out I wasn't even able to get my valve stem of with pliers. I think all the sealant frose up the nut that holds the stem in place. I ended up having to cut of the stem with a hacksaw. I am currently running a tube till I can get a new valve. I also tried to patch my tire, but im not to confident it will hold. We'll see.

I don't usually carry anything if I am riding less than 90min. About once a year I will be on my single speed(which still is tube) and get a flat. To many freakin goat heads around here. I usually am able to sort of ride home at the expense of my tire. I am going to keep my mouth shut on tubeless because I don't want to ruin my luck.

That is nuts your valve stem was that tight.
